Food order that we didn’t order

The doorbell just rang. Husband answered it, there was a plastic bag of food on the floor and a man on a motorbike put his thumb up and rode off.

Husband called 19 year old who does sometimes order pizza but it wasn’t hers.

What do we do? There’s no way of knowing who delivered it (it’s just in a white plastic bag with no receipt or anything) or who it’s for. Husband and daughter are hovering around it like vultures.

Will the courier come back? It really smells.

You must be able to work out which local takeaway it came from and give them a ring?

BeautifulCrazy · 01/07/2020 19:58

Who knows if they’ll come back. There’s no way I’d be eating it though.

dontdressme · 01/07/2020 19:59

Do you have neighbours?

GreatestShowUnicorn · 01/07/2020 19:59

What type of food is it? Call local places that do that and try and work it out. Though expect you’ll get to keep it especially if you cough on the phone! And enjoy mystery dinner!

Namechangex10000 · 01/07/2020 20:00

Honestly, I’d let them eat it! And now I’m thinking about all the times this may have happened in the last 3 months and the correct owners order may have been fiddled with by family’s in wrong addresses! There’s no way the takeaway could collect it from you and take it to the correct house especially given the current situation

H1978 · 01/07/2020 20:05

I don’t understand how they get the houses wrong. We’ve had five deliveries for takeaway for the same address, the street opposite us, with the same door number 🤔😳

What is it

iklboo · 01/07/2020 20:09

There's 4 curry houses, three pizza places and three chippies near us all with very similar menus. Not that easy to work out.

mineofuselessinformation · 01/07/2020 20:12

Is there a receipt in it?

employeewoes · 01/07/2020 20:13

Eat it! The courier won't be able to take it back and give it to the right person now. The rightful recipient will contact the shop who will send out another.

amylou8 · 01/07/2020 20:13

If it it's still there now I'd be eating it 😁

UnitedRoad · 01/07/2020 20:13

Daughter knocked on a few doors and someone claimed it. God knows if it was theirs or not!

I had a sneaky peak - it was kebabs.

No receipt. If it had been something I liked I would have been tempted, or more likely, have eaten it before anyone could take it away.

Honestly I wouldn’t eat food from an anonymous takeaway. I need to know where it’s from first!

How nice of her to knock and check with neighbours though. This happened to me at uni halls and the receivers would always keep my food!

CatBatCat · 01/07/2020 20:28

Tuck in

alexdgr8 · 01/07/2020 20:32

once anything perishable has been delivered, or any food item, it cannot be returned/ re-directed.
so, since even if it were collected, it would have to be destroyed/ ?poss eaten by delivery driver, and you cannot determine its origin, i would say you and yours might as well eat it.
