Has anyone bought a car from Motorpoint?

And if so - was it a decent experience?

Was the car you bought ok?

Need to replace my car soon and they seem to have some decent ones, but I dont know anyone who has used them.

Thanks

Yes, we have bought four cars in total.

Yes, it was a decent experience, but know the value of your trade in, be ready to try and be sold every insurance known to man. Don't appear overused, or over excited about cars, come and go a few times. We had a situation where we changed our minds after fully putting down a deposit and were due to pick up the next day, they totally accommodated us and we switched cars.

You just have to know what you want, know your budget and be careful with finance, I would arrange my own loan with a bank rather than their finance (if its needed).

I have, albeit a long time ago.

Back at that time (unsure if still the case) they had a lot of ex fleet and ex hire vehicles (vs private owners) hence still very new but you were never quite sure how well they’d been driven.

Price wise they were quite competitive but there was no haggling to be done (that said, if they’ve been closed for covid, that may have changed).

Not sure of level of aftercare / recourse vs buying from a conventional dealer.

I bought my first Juke from their Glasgow branch. Gave me a decent part exchange, they do not negotiate on price of vehicles but will a bit on any trade in. My car was a great price for the model and milage. And spoke direct to me and not my dad who was with me. Unlike a few other places i went.

Yes we've also bought four cars from Motorpoint and have always found it a good experience. We've not used their finance either and have turned down the various insurances they provide: we don't need them at all so I can't say if they are good deals or not I'm afraid - do your homework beforehand if you need to.

Have a good look at the different models online before you go - sometimes a younger car with slightly higher mileage is a better deal than, say, an older model that has super low mileage (or vice versa). it depends on what you want but their cars tend to be ex-rental so some are in nearly-new condition and others might have a few more scratches.

The last two cars we bought on the same day in January. We were only going to have a browse but ended up leaving one of the cars then and there and driving the new one home! Our nearest branch has a café and free wifi so we took the DC's tablets with them and they watched TV/played while we were looking and then buying.

I would definitely recommend them.

Yes. I used to run my own business and my car was a must, so it needed to be a decent one, low mileage and nearly new. The experience was great. No haggling in price but you know what you get.

We bought a car and when it went for its service it had been in an accident and there was internal damage they hadn't disclosed. It wasn't an expensive repair, but when we went to motorpoint they said it must have happened after purchase and point blank refused to help.

We get all our cars nearly-new from there and have never had any issues. My car makes #5. We buy outright without the insurances or finance. Simple to part exchange my previous car who was sound but grubby after transporting young children for years. She came from Motorpoint and parted through Motorpoint.

eleflump · 01/07/2020 19:14

Thanks everyone - we would be buying outright and wouldn't want any insurances or anything.

It was reading that they were ex-fleet or rental cars that had put me off slightly, but sounds like it might be worth going to have a look.

We get end of last reg cars, so in effect brand new, but a technical year out of date.

Rodders92 · 01/07/2020 19:36

We’ve bought 3 cars from them without any problems , prices are competitive and you can always transfer cars from any branch to your most local one, if the local branch doesn’t have what you want
