Joke threads or troll threads?

Can I ask what the problem is with someone trying to make a funny thread about another thread? Why are they jumped on as a troll? Why do lots of people immediately report them and mumsnet then delete? Genuinely interested as to why it's such a no-no. Could see if it was a sensitive issue but this was about building an extension. Surely even the OP of the original thread would see it as a joke? People calling the OP things like 'sad worthless troll'. Over a joke thread about an extension? I really would like to know why anyone would get so worked up about it. I don't do a lot on here so must be unaware of rules.

I didn't see the thread you're referring to but TAATs (thread about a thread) are against talk guidelines.

Thanks for replying. Yeah - I can see the point people could be put off starting threads if others are able to then make it a bigger deal by starting new threads about them for whatever reason. But people jumped right in there slagging the OP off. It was a reverse thread and just looked to me like it was meant to be fun. Wasn't particularly funny but you open a thread and get pulled in.
