How much is your teens monthly mobile bill

DoorstoManual · 01/07/2020 10:16

For context it is a sim only contract.

This month it was £23.50, turns out he purchased extra data £7 without asking in the middle of June. >

He is still asleep, so will talk to him when he wakes up, but before we do, just wanted to see how much on average people are paying ?

TIA

£5 bundle, non contract. Owned phone.

catchyjem · 01/07/2020 10:20

£7 for unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 12gb data

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 01/07/2020 10:21

sim only, £5/month for 2GB IIRC. Never been over by more than a quid or so for picture messages (to me, I'm not on WhatsApp). She's pretty good about waiting to connect to wifi to do anything meaty. If she needs more data I'd be happy to switch her to my bundle which is £7.50 for 4GB.

zen1 · 01/07/2020 10:21

£7. Owned phone.

LemonBreeland · 01/07/2020 10:22

Both my teenagers are on contracts that are around £15. Capped bill so they can't go over. DS1 prefers it capped so he doesn't have to worry about going over.

Mine haven't really used data much during lockdown. It's all wifi, so they never run out.

RedskyAtnight · 01/07/2020 10:22

PAYG phones - they have £5 of credit a month (they can have more if they ask for it, but very rarely do). They generally connect to wifi for most of the stuff they want to do.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 01/07/2020 10:23

£25 on contract with a phone. There is a block on spending anything on it (after dd1 did the same, and bought more data without me knowing)

DoorstoManual · 01/07/2020 10:23

Thank you everyone we need to cap it pronto.

It is not about the money per se, but the fact that he didn't ask.

DD(13) £24 for iPhone xr, pay of birthday present.
DD(18 but still at college) £23.50 for iPhone 11 I think.
Neither ever go over.

Mynameisrow · 01/07/2020 10:26

What’s the deal you’ve got him currently for data?
Not my own teen but my younger sister has a sim I pay for her, I got her a £12 a month sim from three. 12GBs of data, Unlimited calls and texts and also a streaming package that means she can stream Netflix and I think it possibly includes snapchat without using any of her data.

Whatnametomorrow10 · 01/07/2020 10:28

£15 (was £12) unlimited data etc we got it on a Black Friday deal. She kept going over her data allowance previously now I don’t need to think about it!
We’ve brought the phone but she paid half of it -

JonHammIsMyJamm · 01/07/2020 10:28

About £47pm. Unlimited everything. New iPhoneX. She is almost 18.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 01/07/2020 10:29

Sorry, £42

swampytiggaa · 01/07/2020 10:31

£7.50 sim only capped.

Hellohah · 01/07/2020 10:35

I pay £24/month for DS15 phone, same as mine.
It was the latest phone when he got it last year (Vodafone wanted £56/month so we got a very good deal). Unlimited calls/texts and 20GB data. He never has extra charges, so it's £24 every month.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/07/2020 10:35

Do you have wifi at home? One of the things I've noticed is that, because I'm barely leaving the house, my phone data use has plummetted, from 2-3 Gb a month to well under 1 Gb.

But anyway, seeing as you can get tens of Gb or even unlimited data for £10-15 pm, there's no reason to be paying over £20 pm, especially if he's using wifi at home a lot of the time.

Why is he using data during lockdown?

2pinkginsplease · 01/07/2020 10:42

Ds (18) has a Samsung costing £22 a month
Dd (16)has an iPhone costing £25 a month both got them as part of a birthday present and the agreement was that if they went next over their data or call usage they have to pay for that, usually only happens if we are on holiday,

JonHammIsMyJamm · 01/07/2020 10:43

We are allowed out during lockdown you know.

2pinkginsplease · 01/07/2020 10:43

£25 a month was my limit, not willing to pay over that for a teenager though plenty of their friends parents do!

00100001 · 01/07/2020 10:44

Make him pay the £7

ChaoticCatling · 01/07/2020 10:44

14 year old, £7.50, 2GB data.
He used up the data last month but I have a £2.50 cap on extras, so then it's £10. He used more due to being at school, now coming home at lunch so he can use the WiFi.

00100001 · 01/07/2020 10:45

@redbigbananafeet

Why is he using data during lockdown?
Err. . because he either is getting round any blocking on WiFi...or you know... going outside??? Confused
00100001 · 01/07/2020 10:46

@catchyjem

£7 for unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 12gb data
