Guess how much 5 days in Centreparcs is next week?

So the pool is shut. Lots of other stuff is also shut/unavailable.

£550 for a one bed place......not in the summer holidays!

Which seems to me to be pretty much normal price? Think I paid £500 when I last went 2 years ago.

I know the outdoors is still open so paths to walk round, cycling. I guess the outdoor activities will be available with less availability though. But surely the pool is the main thing for most people. I’d have thought it would be cheaper. Be interesting to know if they still sell at that price.

That is too much considering you can't use the pool. We just got a week in Cornwall for 375...big beach house.

ny20005 · 01/07/2020 07:33

It's not the summer holidays for England & Wales, it is for everyone else ...

Inadays · 01/07/2020 07:44

@Scruffyoak please tell me where you found your house in Cornwall! Or PM me if you’d rather. We are looking for somewhere (anywhere) on the coast that takes dogs for a few days in August. Thank you Smile

Frozenfrogs86 · 01/07/2020 07:44

Way overpriced in my opinion

pictish · 01/07/2020 07:56

The great sanitised outdoors comes at a price apparently.

pigeon999 · 01/07/2020 07:57

They don't need to reduce their prices, people are desperate to find a UK holiday this year. It seems to be poor form, but they have probably lost alot of money being closed so long, so I can't blame them.

Keep looking but don't leave it to long to book, some places are completely sold out.

HandsOffMyRights · 01/07/2020 08:01

I'm not surprised. I'm expecting prices to increase if anything.

KitKat1985 · 01/07/2020 08:02

Very expensive. But loads of places seem to be doing similar. I'm a National Trust member so still visiting some National Trust places, but it looks like they are still charging non-members the same prices as pre-lockdown even when they can't get in any of the beautiful buildings etc, play areas etc. Similarly I live near a local kids zoo / play park with a small amount of animals, and a large play area and some rides. It would usually be a 'all day visit' kind of place, but obviously currently all the playpark and rides are shut, but people are still paying full price to go in for an hour just to see the animals. I completely get that these places need to start making some money back, and some people are obviously happy to pay, but it seems a bit mental to me.

MrsWhites · 01/07/2020 08:03

I got a price for first week of the school holidays I think it was, £2200 for 7 nights in their most basic cabin for 2 adults and 2 children! I couldn’t believe it! It included a disclaimer that they can’t guarantee that the pool or activities would be available!

The same week in a massive french eurocamp who have already opened their pools was half of the price! No wonder people are determined to go abroad!

BarbaraofSeville · 01/07/2020 08:04

Well that's cheaper than I thought. People are desperate to go away and will pay pretty much any price for CP.

£375 for a 'big beach house in Cornwall' sounds unbelieveably cheap, has a 1 been missed off at the start of that price?

SockYarn · 01/07/2020 08:05

Supply and demand. If people aren't booking, prices will fall. After 14 weeks of this shit people are desperate to go anywhere and do anything which doesn't involve sitting in their own house.

Sitting in a house in Center Parcs and wandering round the forest sounds amazing right now. The £500 is worth it at Whinfell just for the red squirrels.

GameSetMatch · 01/07/2020 08:07

I was meant to be going to centre Parcs on 24th July but I’ve decided to take their £100 incentive to rebook instead, no point going with no pool open. They can’t lower the price too much as people with the come back soon offer would get the new low price so would affect their profits too much.

Everything1sFine · 01/07/2020 08:08

It’s cheaper than I thought too. My guess was £2000. The pool may not be open but they’ve got a captive audience now.

Cuttinginfine · 01/07/2020 08:10

I don’t think that’s too bad - we’ve paid over 600 for long weekend in Cornwall at end of July. Just a standard cottage rental big enough for five, no bells and whistles...

Scrumpyjacks · 01/07/2020 08:12

We rebooked out cp holiday from March to September. Had an email this week saying they are reopening but no pool or spa. You also now can't get on site until 4pm (was 10am) and have to leave by 9am (rather than 10) nothing offered by way of compensation for the lost time. We had planned to arrive at 10 as we are only going for 5 days so feel like we've lost a day of our holiday. But they arnt fussed because you can't ring them due to their incoming call centers being closed.
While the great outdoors is attractive, I'm not happy about being told the terms of my holiday are changing but they're still keeping my money.

pigeon999 · 01/07/2020 08:13

At least if you book centreparcs you won't be stranded or locked down in another country. So on the upside it is unlikely to be cancelled at the last minute.

Would you want to go anywhere near a swimming pool packed with people anyway?? I can't think of anything worse.

BeyondMyWits · 01/07/2020 08:17

97%+ year round occupancy rate - shows they have a fantastic business model for a holiday resort. They will have all sorts of accountants setting the price and T&C.

Teateaandmoretea · 01/07/2020 08:18

Surely without the pool there are much nicer places to go than centreparcs? The place is hardly picturesque it’s just trees and chalets. Baffled why anyone would go right now to be honest.

Lardlizard · 01/07/2020 08:18

Way too much esp considering no pool

hashtagbollocks · 01/07/2020 08:21

I agree. Must be better to just book a cottage somewhere

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/07/2020 08:22

We've looked at holiday accommodation in dawlish which is where we went last year, like for like (same weeks, berth etc) and the price is exactly the same - an annual increase, less a small deduction because facilities are closed. (It's usually anything from 1250-2000 + a week depending on the site and the spec) Why wouldn't it be? The towns will be open, the beaches will be open, and the sites are going to fill bookings whether the pools are open or not. I'm very surprised that you could rent a big coastal house in Cornwall for under £400 for a peak holiday week.

We've decided to cut our losses and stay in my parents static van, pocketing our holiday money for this year. I'm so gutted that our first holiday abroad in years was cancelled that anything else just seems crap anyway, so next year we'll do it properly.

Charleyhorses · 01/07/2020 08:22

Well they are running a business! When they opened the one at Woburn, me and some colleagues (local to it) were literally rolling around the floor at the 6000 a week for their top quality, largest place during the school hols. They were never empty though! It's lack of completion and the fact that we are an island. There are hundreds of similar places in Europe at a fraction of the price.
But as a business that has lost 4 months revenue they would be bonkers to underprice at this point.

zafferana · 01/07/2020 08:28

July/August is peak season and many schools are off by then, including Scottish schools and private schools, which break up the first or second week of July. If CP can get that money for that week, good luck to them. All holiday companies are absolutely desperate for cash after three months of closure. You may not want to pay that, but perhaps others will?

forrandomposts · 01/07/2020 08:28

It seems to be poor form

TBf centre parcs have acted very admirably during all of this, especially to those who already had holidays booked for the next few weeks - you can rebook with a £100discount or have all your money back

Embracelife · 01/07/2020 08:31

It s 110 per night for a hotel style one bed plus lounge kitchen. Reasonable. Compare to hotel room in the area. If you want to stay in the location . Potter around the woods lake etc.
