So the pool is shut. Lots of other stuff is also shut/unavailable.

£550 for a one bed place......not in the summer holidays!

Which seems to me to be pretty much normal price? Think I paid £500 when I last went 2 years ago.

I know the outdoors is still open so paths to walk round, cycling. I guess the outdoor activities will be available with less availability though. But surely the pool is the main thing for most people. I’d have thought it would be cheaper. Be interesting to know if they still sell at that price.

I've just paid £400 for 5 nights in a 4* hotel/flights in Amsterdam for a family of 3.

You're crackers if you pay centreparcs prices.

Well i looked up a holiday park in uk summer hols (no pool or facilties owners only ) and £1100 just for ise of caravan

strugglingwithdeciding · 01/07/2020 13:04

The prices in uk , its no wonder people go abroad where also weather is pretty much guaranteed to be better in certain locations

rookiemere · 01/07/2020 13:04

CP definitely prices up Whinfell for the Scottish summer holidays. Plus I think they're on a fluctuating price base, so like airlines price goes up or (very rarely) down with an algorithm depending how many days from arrival and how many lodges have been booked.

rookiemere · 01/07/2020 13:05

struggling it may be somewhat difficult to get abroad this summer, so prices are relatively higher.

Livpool · 01/07/2020 13:28

Centre Parcs always seems overpriced to me but this seems ridiculous.

Although my interest waned when I realised it wasn't all under a glass dome 🤷🏼‍♀️

Embracelife not necessarily. The majority of private rental sites nowadays have very clear, often up to 20-30 high wuality images of every room, from different angles and inside of the cottage/barn in question. A lot now even come with 360 videos so you are in doubt what you are getting. We stay in 5- 10 such self catering cottages/villas in UK and abroad a year, I've never in past 5 years been disappointed, if anything only pleasantly surprised at how even more stunning/spacious/the views are in reality. I'd never book anywhere that still only had a few images or images that are poor quality/not showing each room.

For me 1 of main criteria for us in totally detached property/not overlooked or close to another property as we are from London so want to escape people, Centre Parcs you are on top of each other. But everyone wants different things.

We have booked a weekend at CP in August. Our reasoning for there and not elsewhere is that it is less likely to be packed with stay-at-home tourists than many other places as they are restricting numbers on site. If you book a cottage/house somewhere then you risk all the other accommodation around you also being occupied (which seemed to be the case when we looked at doing a self catering break somewhere we have been before) impacting the local attractions, restaurants etc. I am happy that the site will be well managed.

Floralnomad · 01/07/2020 14:07

I’m not sure what the price of a city break in Amsterdam has to do with anything it’s a totally different type of holiday .

Nixen · 01/07/2020 14:11

Yep we were looking for a weeks break in August and a 2 star caravan in Scotland was coming out about the same as 4 nights in the south of France... so au revoir it is!

flowery · 01/07/2020 14:13

Also, you say it's not the summer holidays next week, but with most kids off school and lots of parents furloughed, it may as well be for the purposes of going away. Even if people are still working from home they could still do that at Center Parcs potentially, and school work.

2007Millie · 01/07/2020 16:56

@Floralnomad

Well quite clearly it's highlighting how disgustingly overpriced a place is that will have very limited activities in comparison to somewhere that requires a flight.

rookiemere · 01/07/2020 17:51

Just received an email from Forest holidays reducing the prices pretty significantly on their July Scottish stays. They were about £795 for. 2 bed 3 night break and now they are down to £595 which is a lot more reasonable.
There's no algorithm based pricing machine that could model around the situation we're in, so I think companies are just making it up as they go along.

MintyMabel · 01/07/2020 18:13

you can get to your car whenever you want it just means you have to walk to the car park

Not easy to do with restricted mobility. But hey - you can wait an hour for the bus. Unless you are fortunate to get the one accessible lodge you can take your car to that you have to pay premium price for.

Onceuponatimethen · 01/07/2020 19:17

@Iknewyouwerewaitingforme we rent places through one of he biggest cottage cos in uk and in the last 5 years only two stays out of five have been as expected. Others had eg tired soft furnishings and photos quite misleading and selective. One was not very well cleaned
