Guess how much 5 days in Centreparcs is next week?

So the pool is shut. Lots of other stuff is also shut/unavailable.

£550 for a one bed place......not in the summer holidays!

Which seems to me to be pretty much normal price? Think I paid £500 when I last went 2 years ago.

I know the outdoors is still open so paths to walk round, cycling. I guess the outdoor activities will be available with less availability though. But surely the pool is the main thing for most people. I’d have thought it would be cheaper. Be interesting to know if they still sell at that price.

You may need to cast your net wider than Cornwall @Inadays. The most popular UK holiday destinations are all sold out, as far as I can see. I went online yesterday to try and find a cottage near where my parents live (popular holiday area near the coast) and found hardly anything available. Fortunately, my DC are among the ones who break up early and I found one place available from 11th July. I would head north if I had a free choice though - try Northumberland - breathtakingly beautiful, huge beaches, cheap and also empty compared to the likes of Cornwall.

Siddalee · 01/07/2020 08:41

@Scrumpyjacks- you say you've rebooked for September. Out of interest (not judgement) have you got children and if so will they be missing school?

Teateaandmoretea · 01/07/2020 08:44

Shhhh @zafferana don’t tell too many people about Northumberland Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 01/07/2020 08:49

I was looking at a campsite with cold water showers and composting loos, and they wanted £50 per night for a family of 4! So makes CP look great value in comparison Shock

Floralnomad · 01/07/2020 08:50

Totally agree with @Embracelife , we use Centerparcs off peak as a touring base and in an exec lodge sleeping 3 it’s very comparable to a decent hotel with better facilities than most . I already had a stay booked for early December and I’m more than happy with the price I paid ( pre COVID) whether the pool is open or not .

Inadays · 01/07/2020 08:52

@zafferana Yes, you’re absolutely right! I can’t seem to find anything that isn’t ridiculously expensive. The added complication is that we have a dog that we have to take with us! I will certainly look at Northumberland although it’s a long way from us (SE). Thank you

Ticktocklovelyclock · 01/07/2020 08:54

CP has always been overpriced - it's how they keep the riff raff out and make in noice and middle class

thatsnotgoingtowork · 01/07/2020 08:54

ny20005 not everyone else - bit off to implicitly accuse someone of being England (and Wales) centric and then be equally insular yourself! We're not in England or Wales and still have 3.5 weeks of school...

Streamingbannersofdawn · 01/07/2020 08:59

Well they are a business. If people will pay it, good for them.

I booked a 7 night holiday in an amazing looking house in the middle of nowhere in the Yorkshire Dales for only a little more than that. Endless walks and views, hardly any people...bliss.

DoorstoManual · 01/07/2020 08:59

They have a captive market.

In April we booked a holiday in Spain for next year , ( I was having a bad day week Grin)

The other morning I couldn't sleep andout of interest went "shopping" with the same budget and the same dates and there was nothing comparable.

So CP imo will have no problem filling the accomodation.

I do but hes only nearly 2 so no school to worry about thankfully

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 01/07/2020 09:03

If you book and the swimming etc isn't open I think you get money back (sliding scale based on number of bedrooms) or you can cancel our rebook.

SanFrancisco49er · 01/07/2020 09:04

We've booked a week on the edge of a national park, right next to beautiful sandy beaches for the same price. Views out over the headland, big private garden, BBQ etc and weather usually lovely start of august. Ive never understood the appeal of CP and how many people go there. There's so much to see and do all over Britain!
(Was also tempted by Northumberland but I love it in the Autumn!)

IdblowJonSnow · 01/07/2020 09:04

Just go on airbnb and put your dates in and filter that you want to take a dog. I've been to CP and it was ok but didnt really get the hype and think its overpriced for what it is.
There are plenty of threads on here about people getting sick there at the best of times nevermind in a pandemic so dont blame them for keeping pool closed.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 01/07/2020 09:04

At the same time, a week from 27th July is from £2350. That's when they hope that the pool can be opened.

I am wondering if they are out of their minds. That's the price for an all-inclusive abroad

DoorstoManual · 01/07/2020 09:05

Accommodation

CaptainMerica · 01/07/2020 09:05

That's a pretty good price really, considering lots of schools are off now.

Also, CP do a "best price guarantee" if you book another holiday after a stay. They sometimes offer it to non-repeat bookings too. So if they drop the price too much, they will need to refund all the people who have paid more, who have that guarantee. (Though, I believe they are already giving the people with current bookings a discount).

Whysomanyexcuses · 01/07/2020 09:06

It's simple supply and demand.

At the moment all the people that would go abroad cannot or may be worried about spending time in a plane with lots of other people etc and so all looking at the UK.

I looked at 2 nights in a couple of weekends time and the prices being asked were ridiculous.

There is of course a choice - don't go.

IdblowJonSnow · 01/07/2020 09:07

Giggling about the riff raff comment, plenty of people with money but who don't know how to behave well at CP!

Onceuponatimethen · 01/07/2020 09:08

Just to defend centerparcs they have been amazing to those who were booked in to go during lockdown

I have been hugely impressed with them - they offered an immediate refund or rebook. The rebook price for 2021 for the same week was £100 cheaper and we got a £100 discount on top. We got accommodation refunded immediately and activities etc a bit later.

This contrasts very favourably with our summer holiday bookings - Sykes didn’t let us cancel and EasyJet cancelled our flights but we haven’t got the money back yet

MazDazzle · 01/07/2020 09:11

My husband has been stuck abroad for over two months. I’ve been working from home with 3 kids, 1 with ASD. We’re desperate to go away, so booked a run down log cabin With a hot-tub in a resort in Scotland. There are no other facilities on site. It was £2000. We’re desperate to get away, but with hindsight it’s an awful lot of money. Never considered Center Parks - wish I had now.

donquixotedelamancha · 01/07/2020 09:12

Surely without the pool there are much nicer places to go than centreparcs?

Fixed that for you.

Whysomanyexcuses · 01/07/2020 09:16

I have jusst looked at a small place in the middle of nowhere for 2 adults for 2 nights - no facilities at all and it is £550 - very basic accomodation of a fancy shed..... owners are really getting greedy!

Hingeandbracket · 01/07/2020 09:29

@Teateaandmoretea

Surely without the pool there are much nicer places to go than centreparcs? The place is hardly picturesque it’s just trees and chalets. Baffled why anyone would go right now to be honest.
Totally agree - and I have been to CP 3 times.
Hingeandbracket · 01/07/2020 09:31

Indeed - we booked a much nicer place pre-covid. It is due to be open, too. It's a smaller place and waaaaay better value.

Good thing too - I am out of work but hol was paid for so at least we can have this before I really have to knuckle down to life with almost no money.
