Adult autism

Has anyone been tested for autism as an adult. I was going to be tested as a child by my school but wasn’t due to some other outing issue. All my life I’ve been dyslexic and dyspraxic but I’ve felt different. I’ve struggled socially and people around me often call me unique or special. My daily life is definitely effected By the way I am. Is it worth me being tested so I can tell people is there any help available or should I just carry on thinking that I probably am autistic

It's helped me with accommodations in my workplace so for me it was worth it.

I was diagnosed as an adult. I had no idea until I was in my 30s. Read an article and had a “lightbulb” moment. For me, it wasn’t enough to self-diagnose, I needed it confirmed. I went down NHS route so I had a long wait but was finally diagnosed. I cried when it was confirmed, it was a sense of relief and affirmation that there was a reason I was different, a reason why I’ve struggled all my life compared to my peers (even though I’m intelligent). It helped me in terms of requesting additional support at work, getting interviews if I meet the criteria for the job. The biggest thing is that I’ve stopped trying to be someone I’m not. If I tired, I rest. I accept that I have limitations NT don’t, and that’s okay. It’s better for me to accept it than fight it. Instead I embrace the routine and activities that comfort me. I ask for help when I need it. For me it was definitely worth doing.
