Wash powder or gel or tablets?

Which do you use and which do you think is best?

I've always used powder but the liquid is on offer so wondering if it's worth trying.

Powder with the occasional liquid sportswear wash. Powder keeps the drum cleaner due to the bleaches it contains

DramaAlpaca · 30/06/2020 21:59

Always powder, in tablet form. It's better for the machine and stops it getting gunky.

WowOoo · 30/06/2020 21:59

Powder. I sprinkle it on top of the load. Don't want to clog up the machine...a plumber told me to do this and it seems like good advice so far.

amusedbush · 30/06/2020 22:00

I use liquid and it does the job. I don’t like the gel capsules because I wash clothes on a low heat and the plastic coating doesn’t melt, resulting in a snotty-looking blob sticking to the clothes 🤢

formerbabe · 30/06/2020 22:00

Powder

I find liquids leave the clothes slightly tacky

Cecilia2016 · 30/06/2020 22:04

I use liquid because I buy them in large containers from Costco and also use tablets as well. I don’t like powder.

TumbledGlass · 30/06/2020 22:05

Powder

yearinyearout · 30/06/2020 22:10

I use gel, I find the little pods would leave bits of gunky residue. Does powder clean better? I do find I have to pre treat things quite often.

mineofuselessinformation · 30/06/2020 22:12

Powder. You can use as much as is needed (a lot less than you think - I use a vanish scoop for a large load).
A decent size box lasts well.

Tronkmanton · 30/06/2020 22:20

Powder. After many years I realised that liquid used consistently at low temperatures can cause your clothes to smell.

Dhalandchips · 30/06/2020 22:21

Smol, love it!

CommunistLegoBloc · 30/06/2020 22:22

Powder. Massive cardboard box. I used to use tabs but felt horrible about the environmental impact of the plastics, not to mention the bloody tub they come in. And the powder is so much better in terms of how clean the clothes get. They smell and feel much nicer too.

TooTiredTodayOk · 30/06/2020 22:23

Powder, placed straight into the drum, not in the dispenser drawer.

QuestionableMouse · 30/06/2020 22:24

I use whatever is cheapest. Never noticed too much of a difference.

formerbabe · 30/06/2020 22:25

I've saved a lot by using a box box of powder...lasts ages. I prefer it in the drawer rather than the drum. I found it sometimes left marks on the clothes if I put in in the drum

KurtansCurtains · 30/06/2020 22:27

Powder. I ran out once and had some gel capsules so used those on DH's sweaty t-shirts and they came out still stinking (sorry, TMI). But I do only wash on low temperatures.

Powder seems to clean more thoroughly .

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 30/06/2020 22:28

Powder for whites.
Liquid for everything else.

LunaHardy · 30/06/2020 22:39

I use liquid pods. Since putting the pod in the drum before the washing I haven't had the snotty stuff left over once, even on a cooler wash.

Rainallnight · 30/06/2020 22:46

Powder, mostly, because it doesn’t make the machine gunk up (technical term). But I use colour liquid on DP’s work clothes and anything of mine I care about.

YouBoggleMyMind · 30/06/2020 22:55

We use Smol gel capsules.

WithASpider · 30/06/2020 23:07

Powder because it shifts sweat stains/smells properly (I have teenagers)

Liquid simply doesn't cut it.

Bargainhuntbore · 30/06/2020 23:26

Always powder. Works out much cheaper. And i wash everything on 60 wash. None of this cold water farce.

H1978 · 01/07/2020 05:09

I prefer the liquid gel but I find I use more than if I just need to pop a pod in the wash. Powder always leaves white residue on dark clothes 😕

Tlollj · 01/07/2020 05:49

Liquid. Or pods if they are on offer.
Don’t go in for cold short washes either.

Raaaa · 01/07/2020 06:08

Powder straight into the drum
