Does this dog bite look infected?

MediQuestion · 29/06/2020 21:56

3 days old. Dressing came off yesterday, redness surrounding it has appeared today. Oral antibiotics so I’d be surprised if it is infected? But the redness has only appeared today. Feels very firm, not hot

Did the nurse see it or did you redress it yourself.

ProfessorPollington · 29/06/2020 22:03

Yes it does.

Bobbiepin · 29/06/2020 22:05

Is it more painful than usual? Warm to the touch? Do you have a temperature?

If it’s not painful, hot or swollen and if you’re feeling well, it’s probably not infected. Looks more inflammed than infected. Localised redness can just be your body dealing with the broken skin. Draw a biro line around the redness and watch to see if it starts to spread. If it does, or if you start to develop flu like symptoms, go and see your GP as that could mean it’s become infected.

Is your tetanus up to date? Deep puncture wounds can be dangerous. Maybe see a gp nurse type person for a tetanus and antibiotic shot.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/06/2020 22:20

You should get that checked right away. Animal bites can be very serious and take a turn very quickly. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Diverseduvet · 29/06/2020 22:23

If it feels warm to touch it's infected. Draw a line with biro around it. If after some time has passed, it's gone outside the line it's spreading, seek treatment asap.

ilovebagpuss · 29/06/2020 22:55

Yes it does I would ask for a Dr appointment for that or at least a call back to see if a nurse can have a look at it

MediQuestion · 29/06/2020 23:13

Not mine it’s DDs. Tetanus up to date. Nurse dressed it at MIU and gave oral antibiotics.

Dressing came off yesterday and there was no redness, that’s appeared today. DD asleep now but I’ll go and draw around it!
