Anyone recently applied for a passport ?

Liveinthepresent · 29/06/2020 16:36

My passport has expired and I went online to start an application - there is a message advising they are under pressure and to wait unless urgent.
I don't have travel booked at present but things may change and I don't like not having my main ID valid.
So would it be wrong of me to apply regardless and has anyone done so recently to give me an,idea of timescales ?
Thanks

Mine's expired, too, but I'm under a travel ban due to COVID until next year. So, assuming it's not urgent.

Place marking for any useful updates, though!

Ds's I sent in March. Took 2 months. Angry

SummerPoppies · 13/07/2020 20:15

I got my new one on Friday just gone.
It took around a month in all, but that's only because the post office took two weeks to deliver my old one despite being sent recorded delivery first class!!
Once the passport office received it though I got my new one back within a week of them recieving it.
Peterborough passport office.

Horsemad · 13/07/2020 20:39

What colour passport did you receive from Peterborough @SummerPoppies?

Thechase · 13/07/2020 21:21

I sent my kids 13 and 16 on the 3rd of June had a text saying today my sons is on it’s way. 16 yr old with own email and text and first ever passport told me she had a text saying sorry it was taking a bit longer but was being processed. We are due to go away at the end of October so not too worried.

No news yet here ShockShockShock

ZiggeryZaggy · 16/07/2020 12:29

@tinkiiev - what stage is yours showing on the online tracking? We have “identify details received”, and that hasn’t changed since Monday 😬

MulticolourMophead · 16/07/2020 13:01

My passport expired in 2004, at the same time as my youngest was born. Haven't need a passport since, as my ex never wanted to go abroad, so we didn't.

So I've finally decided to get the passport renewed. Hopefully it won't be a faff to get done, planning to get decent pictures after I finally get my hair cut, now that I have that precious appointment with the hairdresser. My boss has agreed to countersign if required.

SummerPoppies · 16/07/2020 14:11

A black one @horsemad it has British citizen on the front instead of European citizen too.

SummerPoppies · 16/07/2020 14:16

It also has the photo in several places on it rather than just the one.
Clearly they were so overwhelmed by my stunning good looks that they just couldn't get enough of them 😂

Horsemad · 16/07/2020 14:19

Haha, thanks for coming back & letting me know, @SummerPoppies. 🙂

With ours they've now received the old passport...and when we called they said there's a new thing where you can call, have to be able to prove you booked travel pre-COVID and then they'll call you back within 48 hrs, ask for evidence, and then will prioritise the application....

So if all that happens today we're (maybe) ok....a big if....Confused

taybert · 20/07/2020 16:38

Any updates anyone? Ours are still processing. I’ve sent a DM on Twitter with proof of the holiday booking which some people seem to have had success with so we’ll see. If I’ve not heard in a couple of days I’ll call up again. Frustrating that they didn’t think to ask for that evidence at the application stage, and frustrating that I didn’t think to send it!

Longdistance · 20/07/2020 17:03

We applied for my dds passport renewal on the 24th June, we got it 4th July. Not too long. I think it came via the Newport office iirc.

TravellingSpoon · 20/07/2020 17:09

I have jusy sent my old one off to Darlinhton after renewing online. Am hoping it will be quick and painless.

taybert · 22/07/2020 10:22

Backlog of 400,000 applications reported by BBC today. My holiday isn’t looking hopeful! Sad

milveycrohn · 22/07/2020 10:32

@Santasunhelpfulhelper I renewed my passport last year, so not applicable to any current delays, etc. However, I renewed on-line and took the photo with my phone.
However, this was more problematical than expected. First you have to have a neutral background, which was not easy in my house. So, the first pictures were not accepted - too much shadow - could not identify face, etc. So then I tried outside. I have a white wall. This also took many takes. I got my DH to take the pic, but had to stand in a flower bed. Then he tended to take it from a slightly wrong angle, etc.
Again, many pics were not accepted. It was very frustrating, but I persevered. Eventually, after about 30 pics, it was finally accepted.

TravellingSpoon · 28/07/2020 22:28

Got a text/email today to say that mine has been accepted and processed.

Hoping it will be on its way soon.
