Anyone know about electrics?

Because I have an issue with a switch!

My hallway has two pendant lights. They are controlled by a single switch as you come in the front door.

There is a second two-way switch plate at the other end of the hall. The left switch also controls these two pendants, whilst the right switch controls the lights upstairs on the landing.

I’ve lived here for 9 years and this is how it’s always been.

Since yesterday, the single switch by the front door no longer works, ie it won’t make the lights come on.

The double switch further down the hall has changed. The left switch still switches the lights in the hall on, however the right switch (which previously controlled the landing lights) now switches on all lights up on the landing and down in the hall at the same time.

Any clues on what might have caused this?!

Assuming that they are basic, hard-wired switches (not something modern like Alexa-controlled, but you did say 9 years), it might be that a wire has come loose inside one of the switches.

If so, it should be fairly easy for an electrician to fix, or anyone with the right DIY skills.

Thank you! I was worried!

Or if not a loose wire could be corrosion interfering with connection. Given that it's the switch by the front door that's stopped working that is possible (e.g. moisture issues).

It’s well inside the house, to be fair. We have a porch, and once you are through that, it’s on the opposite wall.
