Cheap but nice lodges/cottages for a break?

I am a bit wary of all of these unknown companies online with cottages but would love to book a UK cottage to get away for a bit.

Where do people book for cottages for breaks other than Air Bnb?
I'm on a budget but will be going off peak which will hopefully help.

I have an apartment that I let out for short stays, I'm on Airbnb but I get most of my bookings through Booking.com might be worth checking there.

Lots of people find me on Airbnb and then try to contact me directly to avoid the extra charges that go straight to Airbnb. I like to offer direct bookings as it's cheaper for the guest and I get more money too (Airbnb charge you and they charge me too!) so it's win/win. So if you find a cottage you like maybe google them for a direct booking to save a few pennies.
