I would like to work in a role such as probation officer/prison guard....something along those lines,

From what I can gather, I could start with a degree in criminology??? It so hard finding out this information

Any ideas if it’s even possible for a single mum with no income to change their life in this way? I feel stuck and totally lost and have no idea where to start with getting advice 😞 thought the wisdom of mumsnet may help point me in the right direction at least

My sister did it. She studied a degree in criminology with my nephew in the university nursey, and got the fees paid via a grant - different unis have various student support things you can apply for.
She has since done lots of on the job qualifications and is senior. She's been a probation officer for nearly 30 years now.
It's certainly worth looking into.
Dsis studied at Teesside university in Middlesbrough, they offer a lot of help to "disadvantaged" students - women returners, mature students, single parents etc.
You can do anything you put your mind to, go for it!
