Prettiest place to visit in the UK

Just that really! We're hopefully going to go away in the UK this year, 3 to 4 times and would like some ideas of beautiful places to visit. We love being outside and photography so would love some ideas that might not be common place.
TIA

Morecambe bay....again ! The view from the Art Deco Midland hotel across the bay to the Lakeland fells, possibly the finest in England.

CherryPavlova · 28/06/2020 20:49

Harrogate and Dales
Newlands Valley
Dartmouth and South Hams. Lots of places to stay.
Cairngorms
Steephill Cove. Stay at a Royal hotel.
Stay at Bovey Castle and do Dartmoor
Walberswick, Aldeburgh and Suffolk Coast. Stay on a Dutch barge at Snape.

Lincolnshire Wolds is a well kept secret, very pretty. Lincoln itself is a lovely city, particularly ‘uphill’ with the castle and cathedral well worth a visit as well as the marina with its waterside cafes and restaurants.
North Devon too - Lynton and , Croyde, Clovelly are all just gorgeous!

pantherrose · 28/06/2020 21:13

Sorry, pebcak error! Lynton and Lynmouth!

Whenwillthisbeover · 28/06/2020 21:18

The cotswolds is seriously pretty but I’m also a huge fan of Cumbria and North Yorkshire for beauty

Svalberg · 28/06/2020 22:45

Ingleton waterfalls & Malham Cove

ceilihouse · 28/06/2020 22:48

Betws y coed North Wales, it's just lovely! It's our little escape place

Skyliner001 · 28/06/2020 22:55

Northumberland, particularly north.

We went to Southwold last year on a recommendation. I think it very much suits a certain type of person.

Lots of rules about what you can and can't do. Not many places to eat and nowhere that describes food in a 'normal' way - shepherd's pie for £15 with 'jus'. People spilling out onto the streets drinking because there's no room in the pubs / restaurants. If it weren't so expensive and the people were wearing football shirts instead of brightly coloured trousers and sweaters draped across their shoulders, there's no way it would have the reputation that it does.

As you can tell, I won't be going back.

West Cornwall is beautiful. Sennen Cove is one of my favourite places on Earth.

IAintentDead · 28/06/2020 23:27

Whitby is fabulous (Old Town, New Town and the best fish and chips in the world). Close by are Staithes and Robins Hood Bay which are even more fabulous and picturesque and less commercialised. Inland close by are the North Yorkshire Moors which are stunning and Goathland where Heartbeat was filmed is close by too. Depending where you are coming from you can also visit James Herriot country on the way.

There are quite a few I have found:

Dunster is a beautiful village on the somerset/north devon border. Exmoor and Minehead are nearby- lovely places

Clovelly, North Devon.

St Ives, West Cornwall

Portscatho, W. Cornwall

Porthleven, W. Cornwall

St Just, w. Cornwall

St-Just-in-the-Roseland, middle of Cornwall (near Falmouth, Fowey sort of area)

Port Issac, North Cornwall

Alnwick, Northumberland coast. Actually much of the Northumberland coast is beautiful. I also recommend Bamburgh, Embleton, Craster and Seahouses up there.

Durham, Northumberland

Hexham, Northumberland

North Yorkshire moors especially Richmond, Thirsk and Askrigg area (fictional Darrowby in the James Herriot books and TV series All Creatures Great and Small)

Yorkshire Dales

York- a really lovely city

MintyCedric · 28/06/2020 23:33

Yorkshire Dale's are just phenomenal.

Drove from Keighley up to Wensleydale a few years ago and ended up stopping the car multiple times to take photos.

Did you go to St Just in Roseland Church? Really pretty and unusual.

OP if you're in that part of Cornwall and liked the Eden Project Trebah Garden might be well worth a visit.

All Scotland:
East Neuk of Fife and St Andrews
Plockton
Applecross but the drive across the old cattle pass is not for the faint hearted!

Also Northumberland and North Yorkshire

theluckiest · 28/06/2020 23:43

Another vote for the Isle of Skye. Not sure if pretty describes it but breathtaking, stunning and incredible do!

Suffolk def pretty. Yorkshire Dales. Polperro, Boscastle and lots of Cornwall. Northumberland is stunning too especially Bamburgh. DH took the picture attached of the more spectacular sunset I've ever seen...

Scotland west coast and islands.

Scotland north coast for sheer rugged wild beauty.

Not been in the church yet but it on my itinary when am next there. I have heard it is stunning.

Trelissick Gardens also worth a look and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

I am hating covid 19 at the moment for keeping me away from going to Cornwall.

Lemonmaid · 28/06/2020 23:55

Forgot to add Bath.

I've never actually been but have done a lot of research around that area for a couple of stories I've written over the last year. Am desperate to see it for real.

Went to Cornwall several times with ex but North Coast and apart from St Ives it was all kids attractions and his itinerary, so definitely due a return visit to the south.
