@InsaneInTheViralMembrane

My body is Faroe Isles beach-ready.

My dad is hoping to cross the border into Nicola’s sacred land. He’ll switch to Doric when questioned by the newly appointed border control and offer them butteries as an under the table bribe.

I remember the first time I overheard a conversation in Doric, I was wtf! I did get used to it after a while, and butteries, heaven sent high fat and salt ecstasy.
TheGreatWave · 28/06/2020 22:12

Thanks - it means a lot.

And hugs for others that need them at this time.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/06/2020 22:15

@TheGreatWave

Tie me to a chair in here and not let me on other posts.

Why is it only covid? why is that the only concern? Why is it only them that matter?

I found out today that someone I know has died - she matters, her death matters, her life mattered, she is not insignificant because it is not covid. She would only matter to some people if she had died of covid, she didn't, so she doesn't.

It's horrible and there is nothing I can do, it is all about the covid.

All humans matter. Living matters. Death matters. Flowers

I went to a funeral about a month ago in support of a member of our scouting group. It wasn't a Covid death. It was forseen, but too soon. But Covid deprived the family of a full funeral. They can't suspend their grief and bury themselves in work (were furloughed at that point) and in Scouting. Covid took their grief and isolated them further and took away their rites and choices of coping mechanism.

Littlebelina · 28/06/2020 22:15

Sorry to hear about your friend TheGreatWave

Dowser · 28/06/2020 22:24

@DominaShantotto
We stayed at Leicester uni for our dowsing weekend nearly two years ago in September
It was lovely..me and mr Dowser had separate bedrooms
. He loved that cause he’s an up for breakfast sort of person...where I’m more a..if you think I’m getting up for breakfast kind of person...

So, he loved getting up early, clashing brains with our Dowser friends , while I dragged myself into the day
It was also the last time we saw The lovely Christopher strong..a fabulous Dowser and a redline off the wall kind of character..but he even more so.
When we first met him he was all dressed in pink, various shades of it. I complemented him on his outfit. He said yes, this morning, I wondered what colour to wear, Dowser and I got pink.
Next day, he was all in various shades of mauve and lilac. Loved him so much.
He was supposed to be giving us a talk at our meeting in N Yorks in the following January but he took ill and went to join his Beautiful wife Veronika, whom we met a couple of years ago a month before she died.

He told the most wonderful. He worked at the college for psychic studies in London. People used to go the strings when they couldn’t get help from anyone else.

They’d lived in Africa for some of their life and were very familiar with curses. Often when people turned up, who were feeling not quite right, or felt run down..couldn’t put their finger on it..they’d turn to the strings and often find it was the result of a curse.
Absolutely fascinating stuff

And there I go jibber jabbering again.
I’m going to get his book out and re read It

I wonder what he would make of this fiasco

Your friend matters, @TheGreatWave, sorry for your loss.

@BogRollBOGOF I was talking to a friend early on about coping mechanisms being taken away. It has ripped them away from so many people - keeping busy and active and involved in things is a way of helping with rumination and proper despair. (As opposed to the I DISPAIR type). But obviously that’s not important when there is Covid. Hmm

Anyway, another week in the box room looms for me. I can’t say I’m thrilled about it, but at least I have managed to not have a drink today, and have indulged only in one single packet of crisps, rather than punctuating my day with them.

Dowser · 28/06/2020 22:33

So very sorry great wave
I hope you get chance to be able to say a proper goodbye
Why does life have to be so hard
No one is having a good time right now
Any joy we snatch is just that ..a few joyful moments to blot out the doom and gloom.

The dirty, rule breaking, Brits should not be allowed in yet. UK rates are too high and they don't know how to behave (showing a wide angle lense of Bournemouth and narrow one of Fethiye). Who is doing all this moaning. Fucking ex pat Brits.

Just the same thing on the Spain expat pages. Dirty disgusting Brits not welcome. Never mind that they're all safely retired and not the ones who are actually facing losing their livelihoods if they don't get some sort of a tourist season this year.

MinesaPinot · 28/06/2020 22:33

A very un-MN hug Wave so sorry to hear your news. It makes me so mad this continued emphasis that nothing else matters except Covid.

I put the news on but the BBC were being their usual Dementor selves so have turned r over to David Bowie at Glastonbury in 2000. He's doing All the Young Dudes at the moment - I'm reliving my youth - fabulous.

SeagoingSexpot · 28/06/2020 22:36

Okay I just got done watching the NT Live/Bridge production of Midsummer Night's Dream and it is a slice of pure joyous sunshine and light. It's free on YouTube until Thurs and I recommend it to anyone who just needs to smile this week.

I miss theatre so much. We need theatre back. And cinema and galleries and museums and culture and life.

Institutkarite · 28/06/2020 22:44

@TheGreatWave
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, she did matter. Hugs for you 💐

Littlebelina · 28/06/2020 22:44

Not as classy as Seagoingsexpot (there's a sentence) but we've just watched the Will Ferrell Eurovision film and I really enjoyed it. Usual frustrating will Ferrell character but made me giggle and would recommend as a cheer me up

MagdaS · 28/06/2020 22:54

Oh yes we so do need theatres back. I’m rewatching the Opera North Ring Cycle on YouTube - which I saw live twice, once over consecutive years (they did an opera each season) and then again over a week. It was wonderful. And some of the orchestral musicians got the tram back and happily chatted to us about it all the way home.

Willow2017 · 28/06/2020 22:56

TheGreatWave
Of course they mattered sorry to hear about your friend.

It's appaling this fixation on bloody covid. Nobody ever died before nor will after don't you know.

HesterShaw1 · 28/06/2020 23:00

This is awful :(

That people are being given the impression that the deaths of their friends and family are unimportant because they're not Covid. It's horrible and distasteful. I'm really sorry.

dingit · 28/06/2020 23:12

I've not posted on here much but am scared tonight as my dd has just been taken to hospital with an allergic reaction. Because of Covid I can't be with her Sad
She is conscious and has her phone so I'm waiting to her from her and I'm on here trying to stop worrying

Mrsfrumble · 28/06/2020 23:13

Oh my goodness dingit how scary. How old is your daughter?

justasking111 · 28/06/2020 23:13

Done a bit of googling on Leicester, reading local readers comments, it does seem isolated pockets in L1,2,3,5. This area is rife with slum landlords, seems Dickensian, multiple occupancy no control by the council, no-one seems responsible for this,

MinesaPinot · 28/06/2020 23:15

@dingit handhold from me. It is very worrying especially as you can't be with her but we are all here for you any time.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/06/2020 23:15

I hope she's well Flowers
We're here with Life the Universe and Everything.

David Bowie in da house. Here's to the return of live music and festivals.

dingit · 28/06/2020 23:16

She's 21. She managed to od on antihistamine they are doing obs and blood tests. The paramedics were lovely

justasking111 · 28/06/2020 23:17

Ah dingit try not to worry too much it is awful not being allowed to go in with her. My friend a GP has not been allowed to see her mother in the hospital, despite knowing all the rules. Hope she phones soon.

mightbealittlebitmad · 28/06/2020 23:19

Having a bit of a wobble today, we are supposed to be going to a wedding in September but we have no idea if that's going ahead. Now is normally about the time I would be arranging a catch up with the bride but we would always meet in a city for shopping and lunch, no idea if they will be going ahead any time soon, especially since she can't drive and I usually get the train so that I can indulge in prosecco. We are also supposed to be going on holiday in October, potentially still possible but I want to rearrange for next year but I have no idea what next year will bring so I'm on the verge of just cancelling it entirely.

Watching TV where people can just be around others makes me sad. I want to shake people who say the sight makes them feel sick or scared. I'm tired of people saying that because they can't do stuff it means those of us who are barely at risk shouldn't either yet we are the selfish ones? Everyone is selfish, it's human nature to put ourselves and our families first before people we don't even know.

Driving instructors are due to start up again in July, they will be able to have several people in the car over the course of a day yet we are not allowed to get within 1m of someone and we have to take our own crockery and drinks. I get that it's money but if it's such a big risk to be seeing people inside shouldn't they be holding off a bit longer? We have people insisting that restaurant staff wear masks and/or visors and that there should be screens in between the tables yet they will all be placed 1m apart.

It's all just so frustrating! I can't believe how some people are literally waiting for the governments permission to hug members of their family. When did we become so incapable of making our own decisions? Parents risk the most important thing in their lives; their children by allowing them some freedom to grow up. We could keep them inside forever but that's not a rational response. Isolating people long term, taking away their jobs, houses, lives is also not rational and at some point we will all just have to take a deep breath and get on with things.

justasking111 · 28/06/2020 23:20

Ex pats abroad are an awful lot in the main, too much sun, booze and time to fret about the smallest thing. OH many moons ago took part in legs of a round the world yacht trip. One leg was in the caribbean, the boat had problems so they had to stay over for a time met lots of ex pats who had sailed into port there and never left. Their boat gear rotting in the climate, boats no longer seaworthy. They smoked pot, drank rum and slowly rotted away themselves he said.

Nihiloxica · 28/06/2020 23:20

@ILoveTotoro

Hope you're ok *@Nihiloxica* X
