DM was brought up in Thurso sixties and seventies and we have been back a few times since ... majority of family still live in and around Inverness so up that way fairly often .

On the road up to Thurso we used to see what looked like two giant caterpillars on a mountain side (trees) ... I think others saw it in the same way . I can’t remember where . Mum thinks closer to Dornoch but not sure ! Whenever we did drive up we’d have taken the ‘long road’ round and not gone over the bridge ... always stopped at Struie hill viewpoint I think . Might have been around about there ...

Mum remembers it looking like that as far back as 1975, and still looked that way in 2005 (last time we all drove up there, more recently just used the train) .

Just curious - speaking to my (now very elderly) gran this afternoon and she can’t quite remember at all, and I can’t find a photo online to explain either . Maybe nobody else knows what we mean, but hopefully !!
