Anyone know anything about fledglings?!

We have a little fledgling in the garden. He's was hopping around and flapping a bit yesterday morning so we left him to it. He gradually quietened down and has been sat in one spot since yesterday early afternoon. I thought he was just tired after all his efforts and obviously it was very hot...but this morning he is still in the same place.

He's quite sheltered and we have blocked off access so the dog/chickens can't bother him. We also left him water. I might have seen his parents hanging around but we have tons of birds in the garden so who knows?!

I'm aware that fledglings spend a couple of days on the ground but is it normal for him just to sit in one place for so long. He has a slug on his tail this morning and a few flies were on him yesterday but otherwise he looks okay to my untrained eye (his eyes look bright, no obvious injuries). No sign of parents this morning so far.

Should I do anything? The kids are determined we should 'rescue' him, but I'm not so sure!

There’s a helpful flow chart from the RSPCA here..,

Thanks purple. I need to sit out for a while and watch for parents I guess. At least the rain has stopped!

I have DD sat watching for the parents. He's in quite a tricky spot between the house and the garage (high walls, narrow path) so I'm wondering whether I should move him to a more accessible area....
