I need a new radio station

I've been listening to 6 Music for years now and since I've been listening more whilst WFH it's started to really irritate me. I loved it when Craig Charles was covering the afternoon slot but now Steve Lamacq is back I just find it so dull. Any ideas? TIA.

I'm at the age where I've discovered Radio 4 and actually the shame enjoy it.

I just couldn't bear the inane burbling that accompanies music stations any longer. Hmm

UncleShady · 26/06/2020 16:15

Do you have an Alexa? I tend to cycle from Absolute 90s to Kisstory to Absolute 80s to Virgin Anthems to Radio 4. I'm also going through everything I can find on BBC Sounds - ISIHAC, Desert Island Discs. Occasionally Alexa mishears which radio station I'm asking for and will play a really good playlist.

Fartlek · 26/06/2020 16:15

I've started to listen to Radio Paradise. It's an internet station from the West Coast of the US that you can get on an app. It has no news or chat but the playlists are curated so it's not just random like so many other digital channels. There are 4 different mixes to choose from, Mellow, Main, Rock and World/Etc. I usually listen to mellow. I used to listen to Radio 2 and 6 music but I find them annoying to listen to all day. I can't bear Zoe Ball or Ken Bruce.

I listen to absolute radio, and it's sister stations , Absolute 60s 70s 80s 90s 00s 10s and Rock.

But if I am fed up with all music I listen to Radio 4 extra , they don't play music ( apart from des' is' disk ' ) they have loads of old and new comedian/ sit coms. And some cracking dramas .

amylou8 · 26/06/2020 16:32

Absolute for music, LBC for talk, radio 2 in the car (no DAB)

dementedma · 26/06/2020 16:35

Mellow magic

adviceatthislatestage · 26/06/2020 17:20

Mostly various BBC stations, but I also use the radio garden app to listen to stations around the world.

I listen to some US stations and its interesting to hear a different viewpoint of their political situation...

Greatest hits radio (for Andy Crane) plays 70/80/90
Heart 80s or 90s and the local BBC for features.
If you can find it Redroad bizarre combination of being at the hairdressers and post office queue.

Heartlake · 26/06/2020 17:32

Radio 4, Heart for a bit of light pop, Kisstory, Absolute 90s. I use the Deezer app too.... love exploring other people's curated playlists.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 26/06/2020 18:26

LBC for Talk radio and Alexa tunes me into an Australian channel called Magic which is just perfect easy listening

So good I posted it twice!

Bluemoooon · 26/06/2020 18:58

The Times are starting a news channel from Monday, I think it is.
I still listen to an FM radio and retuning is a faff so it's Radio 4 for me. The times is on DAB radio.

dannydyerismydad · 26/06/2020 19:04

I'm missing Craig Charles in the later afternoon too. The early lockdown lineup was brilliant.

I too feel a bit radio homeless. Most of the stations that have been suggested have really samey playlists.

I like the eclectic music choices on 6, but some of the presenters are just not uplifting enough. Mary Ann Hobgoblin can do one too.

newlabelwriter · 27/06/2020 06:41

I think today listening to MaryAnne Hobbs doing her to her Glastonbury slot is what finished me off today.

If you like indie music then NME1 or 2 are worth a listen. No DJs and very minimal ads (like maybe 3 an hour). I listen on the Radioplayer app but you can also try it out here

Radio four extra mostly as there’s no news, absolute 90s when I want music, local radio because it’s just like listening to Alan Partridge and radio four for the archers.
