What is a local beauty spot?

Genuinely a bit confused about what a beauty spot is when people talk about others driving to it/overcrowding it during lockdown. I can't envisage what it is- somewhere with a nice view or just a nice park?

I'm in London and I'd say Greenwich is gorgeous both as a park and for the view but I wouldn't refer to it as a local beauty spot.

Depends, could be a lake, woodland/forest with picnic area, waterfalls, pretty cove/beach.

Somewhere people go to for ,walks ,picnics ,days out etc?

Somewhere people like to go to enjoy the ambiance/views/nature or whatever and to "get away from it all" .... unless you count Bournemouth Beach yesterday, when getting away from it all seemed like the last thing anyone wanted to do.

Sadly, one near us (a reservoir with parkland areas around it)have had to have police protection over recent weeks to limit the number of people going .... and don't get me started on the mess they leave behind ......

Thank you, I guess I haven't really done days out like that- we'd go to a castle or an NT property. Maybe the beach but again I'd just say we're going to the beach not a local beauty spot.

It's not a term I normally use as where I live it's one big beauty spot but I take it to mean an unspoiled natural environment where city dwellers can go and enjoy lovely views, walks etc. The problem at the moment is the number of boneheads who are just abusing the privilege by abandoning smouldering BBQs and leaving their rubbish - and worse - behind
