Need to adhere to guidelines this time though.

Interesting views re: centerparcs.

We booked a couple of days ago, for the October half term. There were very few lodges still available.

We probably only spend an hour or so a day at the pool, so are perfectly happy to go even if that is closed - it will be a bit annoying, but not the end of the world. As long as we can hire bikes, the DC will be very happy just cycling around all day with maybe a couple of activities thrown in.

Tbh we've been cooped up so long that it will just be nice to go anywhere that isn't yet another walk around the sodding block...

BarkandCheese · 26/06/2020 08:47

Closing beaches is counterproductive, the reason people are going to the beaches in huge numbers is precisely because so many other things are closed. What they should be doing is putting out information for alternative beaches with parking so the crowds are disbursed over a wider area.

countrygirl99 · 26/06/2020 08:48

On the BBC this morning g they had footage looking from the sea, aerial view, you could clearly see it was small groups with good space between them. Then they went back to the deceptive side view and carried on dementing. Now that sort of busy beach isn't my cup of tea but clearly it appeals to a predictably high number of people.

countrygirl99 · 26/06/2020 08:49

If they close beaches people will just head to beauty spots.

Exactly. I can't help but think people are just fucking thick if they can't think of it in this way.

Close the beaches they cry. And then everyone goes to the park. Close the parks they cry. And then everyone's stuck indoors and were back to square one.

They can all get fucked imo.

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/06/2020 08:50

We have just booked center Parcs for the week after Christmas. The swimming pool is a bit part of the appeal for my older DC so not sire what we’d do if it was still shut. I’d be happy to go workout but not sure the DC would.

Exactly. They should have anticipated that lots of people would be going to the beach on the hottest day of the year and had stewards and crowd control measures in place.
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 26/06/2020 08:52

The whole beaches thing is infuriating me - as others have said, where exactly do they want people to go? Oh that’s right, staring at the 4 walls being SAFE!

As for the schools in the Wales - I’m so sorry - what a clusterfuck. Fuck you women!

SeagoingSexpot · 26/06/2020 08:53

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully

I've found you. Oh god. I had a governors zoom call today. Local primary school in Wales. Head confirmed how they are going back now is how it will be in sept. Classes of 6-8. All of wales looking to implement live online classes in sept. Prob DS in one week in 3. Can't see how it will be different. His own kids going to high school and they've said this will be norm for up to 2 years. This is the head who's already sent warning messages threatening to exclude kids caught breaking sd rules.

I'm in bits.

So in wales no one has 2 parent working families? No one has a DS who hates online learning. Who won't engage and who spends most of his time on fortnite.

How will I cope. My job when normal involves me driving here there and everywhere. What am I supposed to do with an 8 yr old?!

I said to DH we'll have to move to England.

Okay I just saw that and it's beyond fucking insane. Fight it and we'll fight with you.
Drivingdownthe101 · 26/06/2020 08:55

Yes. People are so keen to slag off the ‘plebs’ for crowing on beaches, when actually people going to the beach on the hottest day of the year, when everything else is closed and many people can’t go to work or school, and put measures in place to deal with it. It makes me angry that people fail to hold the authorities accountable.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 26/06/2020 08:55

I’m quite impressed (revolted) by some people’s ability to poo wherever. In Sharon Osborne’s autobiography she talks of going to someone’s house for a show-down and then pooing in the doorstep. If I go to a hotel it takes my bum 4 days to unseal!

Not sure I could poo anywhere except a toilet!
BakewellTarts · 26/06/2020 08:56

I can't see how Wales will be able to sustain that position on schools if England and Scotland don't. Let alone the impact on children its completely rubbish.

Bollss · 26/06/2020 08:57

I mean if they opened schools and workplaces there'd be barely anyone on the beach so... Easily solved imo.

If they close beaches I honestly think there'll be riots and I wouldnt blame anyone. I really wouldn't.

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/06/2020 08:59

Yeah but this way they can blame any rise in cases on the plebs. If they open schools and workplaces they’d have to take some responsibility.

Teateaandmoretea · 26/06/2020 09:02

Exactly, people are at the beach because everywhere else is fucking closed.

I personally wouldn’t go to CP without the pool being open.

But the goods news is that hospital death rates are a quarter of what they were at the peak according to the Times

Teateaandmoretea · 26/06/2020 09:03

So it is no longer one lone Italian voice for the world to treat like a maniac

Virus patients less likely to die now than at peak of crisis

Shodan · 26/06/2020 09:03

Morning all.

I can't believe what Wales are saying about schools! That's absolutely outrageous. How on earth can they thing that's warranted? Or excusable?

And the Bournemouth thing- I watched news of that with an open mouth. Really- the authorities didn't think beforehand that on the hottest day of they year so far, with many leisure activities still denied to them, people wouldn't go to the beach? How short-sighted do you have to be? They should have been all over that before it got to be a problem.

Not that that excuses the appalling behaviour of those parking badly/abusing council staff etc, but honestly Hmm

Mrsfrumble · 26/06/2020 09:08

Fuck you women!

Well quite! As I’ve said before, I’m a SAHM anyway but the idea of things carrying on like this beyond September makes me want to tear my hair out. I had things that I did and were important to me; a weekly toddler group I’ve been running for years; a morning a week doing reading support with ks1 children in a local school with a disadvantaged intake; the Sunday school group I taught... I loved being with all these children and liked to think I was making a positive contribution to their lives, however small. Now I have no idea when or even if I can do those things again. My world has shrunk to my own two children. Feeding them, trying to teach them, keeping them entertained and out of DH’s hair. That’s it! That’s my whole life right now. That doesn’t seem healthy, does it?

Ugh, so much self pity! I was wide awake at 4am thinking about this and trying to decide whether I wanted to be under or over the duvet. Let me know if you find a way out of the funk @Drivingdownthe101...

trappedsincesundaymorn · 26/06/2020 09:09

Thanks all.

I must admit the beach thread made me chuckle in an evil Bond villain type of way. If they think all that anti-social behaviour on 1 day is bad, then they ought to try living near Glastonbury....we get that every fucking year for 4 days. Not this year though, we've sent all the idiots to Bournemouth instead. We'll just enjoy our weekend of peace, litter free, traffic free and no garden shitters. I doubt any one from Bournemouth will give a fat rat's crack next year when we have it all back again.

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/06/2020 09:10

I had chocolate for breakfast, but that hasn’t helped.

LizzyButton · 26/06/2020 09:10

In between playing teacher at home yesterday while also WFH I took a break and turned on the TV news. On spotting a child roughly her age running right to left across a beach she asked why he wasn't at school.

"F*wits for parents" came out before I could stop myself.

I might have to go to confession.

ISaySteadyOn · 26/06/2020 09:11

Really? Seems like there are 'fun police' . Perhaps they should all be issued hats with buckles on (puritans)
