My mum loved Cadfael and I did read quite a few as a child/teen. Bit soft for me these days!
DH watched altered carbon (is that the one with the terrible acting?!) didn't realise it was books.

The Faith Martin series about a female detective who lives on a narrowboat are good and not too gritty I don't think.
If you like psychological thriller type mysteries, Mark Edwards ones are good. Also like LJ Ross. Could go on and on. I read a LOT of kindle books!

thenightsky · 27/06/2020 22:02

@SockYarn

We are 20 mins into Eurovision Song Contest. I'm still trying to decide if its really really tongue in cheek cheesy or just really really cheap and bad.

Dowser · 27/06/2020 22:03

The chickens next door seem to invite rats to live under my decking
I’ve never seen one, , but my neighbour did, not Doris Nextdoor, she’s canny
The other one, the horrible one..I’m so glad
She did a horrible trick to Doris who bought her house.Told her the fire was broken. Replaced it with a much cheaper one.
Doris took their post round one day, got invited in
There was the bleeding fire on the wall

What a skank.

This is my life now

If I can be bothered I watch Vera
As it’s filmed in my neck of the woods
Used to like Bergerac in its day
Read loads of agatha Christie

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 22:06

@torydeathdrug

I love Hinterland - my dad used to live in Aber Grin My mum’s family are all welsh speaking (not me sadly) - they watch it in Welsh. Dh & I scored nil points in the Welsh language section of the family zoom quiz last night (family zoom night = self medicating ... eventually I pretended we were having internet issues to escape the competitive stay at homeness)
They have a Welsh language round when some teams don't speak Welsh? Shock

Rude Wink

Apparently in Belgium they have this really popular TV quiz about Dutch that Belgian teams plays against Dutch teams to see who knows the most about the Dutch language. I have the impression that the Belgians take it a lot more seriously than the Dutch do and often win and are very excited by this.

justasking111 · 27/06/2020 22:06

Hamish Macbeth is a set of books I enjoyed, ditto the tv series at the time. I enjoy witchy cosy mysteries, murders with a paranormal slant.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 22:07

@Dowser

If I can be bothered I watch Vera As it’s filmed in my neck of the woods Used to like Bergerac in its day Read loads of agatha Christie
Vera is good but I just don't love it and I don't know why.

Maybe it's boring.

SockYarn · 27/06/2020 22:09

@thenightsky I it's w total cheese fest. But in a good way.

torydeathdrug · 27/06/2020 22:10

It’s my fault for being a cloth eared anglophone 😂 ... we still won overall!

Dowser · 27/06/2020 22:11

Lethargic so sorry about your sister

I’ve heard sometimes councils put homeless people in caravan sites
Might be worth an ask

thenightsky · 27/06/2020 22:14

@SockYarn I'm loving 'Cousin Matthew' Grin

NUFC69 · 27/06/2020 22:15

At the start of lockdown we found Inspector Montalbano on catch up - Italian sub titles, and then I bought twenty of the books which have been translated into English. Good watching and good reading. It was also interesting that the episodes which must take place over at least ten years, show how society (and particularly Italian society) has changed. Highly recommend.

DS and family came this morning as it was the DGS's birthday yesterday- still waiting for a hug. I don't want to upset my DiL, although I know they are being strict to protect me.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/06/2020 22:17

Sod the DCs, I've had a good play in an adventure playground today, although I did need DS2 to demonstrate how to get down those paralkel slidey bar things. Playgrounds aren't just for kids Wink

Dowser · 27/06/2020 22:20

@BlackberryViolet

Yes 6-30 was the time we had another violent storm . I posted a photo.
I dare say we could’ve stayed but I had none of my bits and pieces with me..as we weren’t properly set up
Oh beds were made and everything but mr Dowser didn’t have his medication and me all my kit and caboodle in case my toothache kicked off..only had pain killers which do bott all

justasking111 · 27/06/2020 22:20

re tv, my family take the mick out of me when they catch me watching this they all shout "Jessica bloody Fletcher" Grin

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 27/06/2020 22:21

She had a really bad experience with the council last time she was homeless with a baby and pregnant (apparently they screwed her over, got her in debt and said all she could have was a 6 weeks in a bed and breakfast and then nothing) and has vowed to never try again. Though my sister is rather difficult and it's possible (likely) that there is a lot more to the story. She's one of those that all officials (council, Social services, etc) are out to get, hate her personally and will never ever help her... (though abusive gaslighting bastard ex probably has a lot to do with this attitude)
But I am genuinely sorry for her and hope she finds something soon. She was finally settled, working, had DCs school places sorted and got the flat and all her stuff sorted out (major hoarder) and had been doing pretty well. I am worried.
Bloody covid.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 22:22

@torydeathdrug

It’s my fault for being a cloth eared anglophone 😂 ... we still won overall!
LOL they probably put that round in just to give themselves a chance to beat you. Grin
Dowser · 27/06/2020 22:23

Anyway..it shows I’ve still got it.
If mr Dowser had been at the wheel, I’d have been hysterical

Oh i was!
Well silently.
I only just stopped from crying.
Ten minutes, I could just to say handle..but half hour was way too much

Institutkarite · 27/06/2020 22:23

Dowser, I think it's the rain and wet in Wales, my garden in Scotland was wide open, we were on the North East Coast so a bit less rain. Plenty of wind though.
In this garden we got rid of a lot of ivy, slugs favourite home

Institutkarite · 27/06/2020 22:25

I missed the tone there, sorry

Willow2017 · 27/06/2020 22:26

Lethargic
Sorry about your sister thats awful. People are crap sometimes and treat others appallingly. This shitstorm has brought out the worst in people.

PickAChew · 27/06/2020 22:26

I love Vera for the landmark spotting, too. Peterlee seems to provide the perfect grotty backdrop :o

When police interceptors was up here, DS1 loved watching it with me. There was a chase that passed the end of MIL's Street, in one episode. Saw a few flashes of ds2's school, too. Almost every time they were near where we used to live, there were horses in the road. Always the same there. Why is the bus late? Oh, there's horses in the road, again.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 22:28

Oh shit, Lethargic, what a nightmare.

Is she in getting support? Is there Housing Rights there? Or CPAG? I know advice agencies are pared back to phone support, but a hostile council will be easier to deal with if she has someone to advocate for her.

@justasking111 Jessica Fletcher is a legend.

PickAChew · 27/06/2020 22:29

Ds2 is still awake. Dh said last time he tried to chivvy him along, he was busy looking at his school on Google maps.
