Started a new one.

Need to adhere to guidelines this time though.

I'm sorry to hear about the sister Flowers that sounds very hard. I hope she can find somewhere to stay. Surely with DC that should give more pints for the council housing. Maybe she will need to declare herself homeless with a family and they will need to do something then.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 20:57

points, sorry

LivinLaVidaLoki · 27/06/2020 21:01

In other news I made myself look a total psychopath at home this evening....
Laid down on the couch earphones in, laughing my head off
DH "what you laughing so hard at"
Me "well, I'm listening to this podcast about Peter Sutcliffe....."

In my defence I was listening to the last podcast on the left, it is very juvenile at times however they handle the events of the crimes very well, well researched and delivered well.

But the introductions sometimes are beyond funny.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 21:02

I don't really read murder books often.

I read Asta's Book last year and I really enjoyed it. I think it was by the woman who writes Patricia Cornwell books but with a different pen name.

NannyPhlegm · 27/06/2020 21:03

which of you like cosy murder mysteries and which are your favourites?

Massive Poirot fan here!
Also liked the various Alexander McCall Smith mysteries and dip into them now and again. Lived the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 27/06/2020 21:06

The Cadfael Series by Ellis Peters.

yes - forgotten about those.

I loved few I read but only found them through TV series - loved first series wasn't so keen on second. Actually I've found a few medieval murder mysteries recenty along similar lines that weren't bad.

I find I tend to read a lot of urban fantasy mysterious with magic and other strange stuff but with the murder/mystery bit still there.

I loved altered carbon series - sci /cyber punk - it had for me a film noir feel which I loved meshed with sci - I saw it's been made into a TV series and I so want to watch it.

Willitneverend · 27/06/2020 21:07

My bloody cat has gone on hunger strike now. She's probably about to riot.

ISaySteadyOn · 27/06/2020 21:11

For me, Agatha Christie, Sophie Hannah, Dorothy Sayers book wise and Death in Paradise tv wise though I did like Unforgotten and The Coroner. And Jonathan Creek.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 27/06/2020 21:11

Our cats are fussy buggers with food or you kow cats.

Morrissons substituted in todays shop felix with whiskers pouches - I think they'll end in in growing pile of food we have stored they won't eat but we'll hang on to just in case they might change their minds - which occasionally happens.

PickAChew · 27/06/2020 21:11

One thing we've not seen in the garden is rats, @LadyOfTheImprovisedBath

As well as assorted birds, we've had field mice, bank voles, a weasel (bouncy and cute!) , a hedgehog and a couple of rabbits. The rabbits are buggers for eating my herbs.

TheGreatWave · 27/06/2020 21:12

Julie Andrews truly was amazing during her career, none like her since.

Our resident wild hedgehogs, seemingly, are too.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 21:14

Oh yes, Unforgotten!

Gorgeous Essex.

Our cat is also on periodic hunger strike.

Maybe they are all building up to a Tame Cat Strike!

TheGreatWave · 27/06/2020 21:28

Just leaving this here, because remember that virus is waiting for you.

I know exactly where it's waiting. Right by the swing sets, with all its mates 😂

DrearyWallAntler · 27/06/2020 21:34

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath

Altered carbon series 1 was very good. Not seen series two.

I hadn't realised they were books, but they had a strong steam punk vibe so from the sounds of it they did quite well with the show.

I love Morse, Lewis and Foyles War. The inspector Lynley books were good, the show never did it justice though.

Also. Slugs make me vom.

RubberDinghyRapids · 27/06/2020 21:38

Where's this riot then?? Grin

Loooong day. Went as follows:
National Trust
Toddler didn't nap.
Danger nap.
Argument with DH.
Toddler finally in bed.
Wine.
I miss fags.

SeaOtterFluff · 27/06/2020 21:40

DD2 loves a good murder mystery. She started off with Agatha Christie books and ITV3 adaptations aged about 10 and is now into the heavier stuff now she's older. One of her lockdown ambitions was to watch Silent Witness from start to finish and I think she's managed it! We love watching Shakespeare and Hathaway, Death in Paradise and Midsomer Murders together with a pot of Earl Grey and a packet of jaffa cakes.

Oh I need to inculcate one of my kids.

My Mum and I share a great love of cosy murder programmes.

Hinterland is another good one. Shot in Welsh and English. It's like Shetland for when Shetland isn't on.

Institutkarite · 27/06/2020 21:47

@justasking111

I have a confession to make. After rain I go out at night with a torch and a load of salt to commit murder on slugs..
Woman after my own heart, good for you. I lived on the North East coast of Scotland for many years, it was very windy and I didn't see a slug for 17 years. Moved back home to wet and damp Wales, the fuckers are there in their hundreds and thousands. Bastards.
torydeathdrug · 27/06/2020 21:52

I love Hinterland - my dad used to live in Aber Grin My mum’s family are all welsh speaking (not me sadly) - they watch it in Welsh. Dh & I scored nil points in the Welsh language section of the family zoom quiz last night (family zoom night = self medicating ... eventually I pretended we were having internet issues to escape the competitive stay at homeness)

Dowser · 27/06/2020 21:55

Got home just over an hour ago.
The drive wasn’t so bad as on the way down, although it was torrential just before thirsk but some nasty little fucker over took me on the dual carriageway just as he approached a massive puddle.
I got the lot.
Massive shock, like a horse trough of water over the windscreen. Gave me a headache
Anyway the rain eased and thankfully made it safely, my dil had 5 mins of rain...all day
From york ring right past mount grace priory On a 19, theres the howardian hills, the hambletons and the Cleveland hills and I think when bad weather comes from the west...it is just stuck there by the hills.

Where dil lives it’s pretty flat and open.

Did you get caught in it BlackBerry. I hope not. It would’ve been awful on Sutton bank

Dowser · 27/06/2020 21:57

Institute..
My aunt in wales m Cardiff, used to get loads on her garden path
Yuck

SockYarn · 27/06/2020 21:59

Ultimate dementor-banishing recommendation: Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga on Netflix.

We loved it in this house. It's silly, totally Eurovision, but so feelgood and just brilliant for those of us fed up with lockdown. And Dan Stevens from Downton Abbey is great in it.

thenightsky · 27/06/2020 22:01

How strange that I go away and come back to the mention of slugs. Not seen any for ages, then this afternoon I found one, half squashed in the back door frame.
