Started a new one.

Need to adhere to guidelines this time though.

In his first post-university house share DH had the downstairs bedroom and he used to find slug trails on his bag and shoes. I was paranoid about them finding their way into bed with us. So. Grim.

Today we walked east into deepest Hackney and found an un-fenced off playground at Springhill park. The children swung, hung upside down on the monkey bars and dig in the sandpit until their hearts were content. It was brilliant! And it’s steak night tonight once the DCs are in bed - we don’t eat meat during the week, so it’s worth looking forward to - so today’s been pretty good.

I'm slug phobic - can you let me know when the subject's changed please?

NothingIsWrong · 27/06/2020 20:13

Sneaking back in here after seeing the wall to wall dementoring out there.

Please tell me this will be over soon. Even if you are lying. Please just give me some hope.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 20:13

Me too.

I swear we have never stayed on a single topic this long.

I keep checking back to see if it's over, but no. 🤢

NannyPhlegm · 27/06/2020 20:25

Me three!

Dementors out there. Slugs in here. Sad

HesterShaw1 · 27/06/2020 20:27

Slugs are over, you hear?

Let's talk about....erm... gardening without the molluscs? Holidays? I know, favourite wine! Mine is a nice cold NZ Sauvignon in summer, or a Malbec when the nights start drawing in. A cold cider of an afternoon is lively too

God I miss pubs....

Boyf isn't much one for pubs and booze as his ex is an alcoholic.

Orangeblossom78 · 27/06/2020 20:29

I am running a bubble bath and have wine, avoiding the rest of them who are watching Star Trek. Again.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 20:31

nothingiswrong I don’t know. But at least we’ve got a good support group here who will always raise a smile - and if we should probably arrange a shindig to Bournemouth beach. By the sounds of things, between the dozens of us we may be able to rustle up half a non slug eaten salad.

Doesn’t salting them just make slug soup? I put my grounds in the soil and compost bin. Use eggshells to try and keep them off the plants.

ISaySteadyOn · 27/06/2020 20:32

OK, I am going to change the subject for @Nihiloxica, @DominaShantotto, and @NannyPhlegm, which of you like cosy murder mysteries and which are your favourites? I know one of you likes Dorothy Sayers.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 27/06/2020 20:32

I hope frogs are okay.

Last location we lived there used to be this walk to best playground with wooden castle and swings surrounded by trees- it was great.

Went one day along route with youngest entire path moving - tiniest little frogs jumping from wood side with ponds across path on mass to river. Strangest thing - had to turn back as DD2 was freaking out about squashing them - saw it a few times over the years- it was about 7-10 meters of path full of tiny hopping frogs - abou 1-2 cm.

I miss the playgrounds from there - it's about the only thing we miss - loads of small different playground full of different equipment.

They don't do playgrounds here well at all - and I've never come across age signs for playgrounds like here 3-9 years old.

I don't think they need to lock them down here there's so rarely anyone trying to use them.

My IL have good ones - MIL goes on zip wire every summer. I miss good beer gardens here as well.

torydeathdrug · 27/06/2020 20:33

With the demise of the Sadly Daily Show, will we ever again get to see Matt Hancock’s pink tie? He doesn’t seem to wear it at other times. Was it his lucky tie? Did he have more than one? 🤷‍♀️

Sign me up for riots of incoherent anger please.
Just found out my sister will be jobless and homeless (again!) thanks to fucking covid19 bollocks. She lives above the place she works in, which the leaseholders have decided not to renew the lease on (covid reasons Hmm), she is currently on furlough. Not sure whether she'll get back to work or not, as I don't know how long they've given her, but she will have to move sooner or later. Single mum with two under 5, abusive arsehole ex who is no help at all. None of our family can take them in and only one can possibly afford to be a guarantor so she's mega screwed. Council housing around here is non existent, she tried before while actually homeless, pregnant and with a baby while going through a court case with the ex and they offered her 52 days in a hotel with nothing after that. Total shit show.
I'm very angry on her behalf.

Couldn't be bothered to go down the extra flight of stairs for wine, so I've got a strong vodka and orange.

Slug tales - last place we lived in they used to come under the back door, caught toddler DD chewing on one once. Her brothers still mention it frequently!
One of my childhood homes (shitty stsic caravan with no electricity or water) had an outdoor loo that my Step Dad built, under a tree. Was sat on the loo one night and a huge slug dropped onto my bare thigh Confused
The other day one slugged onto DH's foot while he was sat on the sofa. Had come in through the open French door.

@ISaySteadyOn

OK, I am going to change the subject for *@Nihiloxica, @DominaShantotto, and @NannyPhlegm*, which of you like cosy murder mysteries and which are your favourites? I know one of you likes Dorothy Sayers.
I LOVE cosy murder mysteries.

Have.I mentioned this before?

My favourite is Shetland.

I also love Midsomer Murders, the old Miss Marples with Joan Hickson (the one true Marple), Father Brown, Murder She Wrote, Amanda Burton-era Silent Witness.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 20:42

Ooh jimmy Perez!

countrygirl99 · 27/06/2020 20:42

Never mind slugs I caught one of our spaniels eating one of my sunflowers. I don't think coffee grounds work on dogs. Said spaniel is already in disgrace for jumping over the garden fence to roll over for the postie.

Bollss · 27/06/2020 20:43

I like the cheesiest of murder mysteries. Death in paradise. A very dangerous place to live it seems, but I'd still rather be there than here Grin

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 27/06/2020 20:43

which of you like cosy murder mysteries and which are your favourites?

I started with Agatha Christie books - Christmas at Styles, 12 labour of Hecules and Murder on the Nile and never really found any one as good.

Spent a large of this afternoon watching David Suchet be Hercule Poirot - realised I was DD1 age and was doing the same thing - which made me feel old.

Though love Kenneth Barannors murder on orient express Hercule Poirot - very different to David Suchet but still felt very Poirot.

Joan Hickson (the one true Marple)

Abasolutely - everyone else seems to play jane Marple as jolly hockey sticks which isn't here while Joan Hickson was scatty old woman who really wan't. She she fantastic in nemesis.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 20:44

Magnus Bain in Shetland 1 would be in his element right now. Jimmy Perez (our hero DI) tells suspect Magnus to stay home and not go anywhere and he says “it’s not my day for Lerwick (shopping), where would I go?”.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 20:47

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane

Ooh jimmy Perez!
I totally would.

Although his mate who is also in Catastrophe is properly a ride with his lovely white sexy hair.

I would so love to visit Shetland. I love far north Viking Europe.

I adore frogs. They are so incredibly cute.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 20:52

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath I read my first Agatha Christie this year.

I really must read them all.

I read the Murder of Roger Ackroyd, which I thought was good. And I spotted the clue.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 27/06/2020 20:54

Jesus Christ you lot can talk!! I think I've missed three threads, one of which was deleted?

Anyway, I also bloody love Jimmy Perez, and his lovely wee house. Was totally up for a trip to Shetland but upon googling found its mostly filmed elsewhere! Boo.

Murdering update - my local stately home & grounds has a wildlife bit that is reopening as of Monday, and they are opening the toilets as well! So I will be taking the younger DD there to toddle along and point at the penguins while elder DD is at school next week. I will have a coffee from the cafe and wee in the toilet and generally go crazy.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 27/06/2020 20:55

Don't do cosy murder mysteries, just gritty ones! Or a good psychological thriller. I usually get through 10+ a month on my kindle unlimited subscription. I can read a book a day when I'm in the mood, but don't really watch TV (or do much housework), so I have time!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 20:55

nihiloxia Duncan is also in Pulling series 3 - Karen beats him up. He goes from abusive boyfriend to quivering wreck - it’s quite cathartic.

I know Shetland very well - more Viking stuff than you can shake a stick at and it only takes a generational north storm to uncover more. You might like the marsali Taylor Shetland murder mysteries too.

BlackberryViolet · 27/06/2020 20:56

which of you like cosy murder mysteries and which are your favourites?

The Cadfael Series by Ellis Peters. Hated the tv series as they never got Hugh right but I loved the books. Then Miss Marple, and I still have a soft spot for the Morse books. Also the first Owen Archer books. I like a bit of medieval
