Started a new one.

Need to adhere to guidelines this time though.

Terrific thunderstorms here, feels a lot better.

Got a Domino's in for tea, and watching Mary Poppins in a bit (the proper one, none of these remade / modern twist ones for me) Kids have never seen it.

Mary Poppins is my favourite film. Bar none.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 18:28

Sorry can’t riot tonight - I’m already in my PJs.

I'm STILL in my PJs preen

I am totally up for rioting but I can't properly engage with the thread until you stop talking about slugs.

I abhor them.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 27/06/2020 18:28

DD and I really liked Mary Poppins Returns! Emily Blunt is great.

RobinHobb · 27/06/2020 18:32

Sweaty slug BJ shudder
This made me laugh though

I'm seeing all these things popping up on fb about how "6 weeks of summer holiday" holds no fear after having been through 12 weeks of lockdown with the little angels. I kind of agree, but my 5yo DD1 is at school right now and her 8 weeks of summer holidays start week after next. The 2yo DD2 nursery has gone under and won't be opening up again.

The thing is it's 8 weeks for us though and I'm still thinking wtaf am I going to do with them. DH is pure dementor and won't leave the house (no risk factors) and tries to impose this on me(shielding but ignoring). He was telling me again about death re using the playgrounds when they open in a weeks time. And no swimming or soft play open either. Anyway we will manage and find things

But I am feeling quite low today. I was doing a post graduate research degree which I loved before all this happened, from September I think I'll continue online, so no more getting out of house and getting dressed and talking to other people in the same field. Just the school run and back. I really feel like the wall of my world are closing in on me and I'll never escape this situation of being 100% mummy on 24/7 duty again. DH works stupid hours and can't help. The post grad degree was literally the saviour of my sanity.

Just hit a wall. And 8 weeks of holidays coming up.

BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb · 27/06/2020 18:32

I shall raise a glass of virtual wine, having hit the bottom of that particular slippery slope some years ago Grin At least being sober gives me the opportunity to be a total smunt tomorrow in approved MN fashion when you're all nursing your hangovers!

Also, don't forget though! Beer Fear. Expect localised storms of Dementoring in the early hours which will gradually die down and be replaced with some light showers of realism with a wave of FuckThis-ery spreading down from the North (as so many of you seem to be in Scotland!)

We did too. My expectations were low because I generally dislike remakes etc but I really liked it!
BlackberryViolet · 27/06/2020 18:33

Dowser, there may be more headed your way. Lovely drive back through Bilsdale then hit another storm so driving through Teeside, especially the flyover, was a bit hairy, still chucking it down but the thunder has at least stopped. My poor garden though.

Hoping it picks up as we’ve booked Harlow Carr tomorrow - just me and dh. It’s the first time we’ve been without the kids since lockdown started

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 27/06/2020 18:34

@RobinHobb, I'm so sorry - you will get back to your degree! This can't go on forever.

CruCru · 27/06/2020 18:34

Ugh. The slugs have eaten one of my basil plants.

LizzyButton · 27/06/2020 18:39

Ugh. The slugs have eaten one of my basil plants.

After initial setbacks we have an approaching lettuce glut.

HesterShaw1 · 27/06/2020 18:42

@RobinHobb, that sounds so tough Flowers

I hope so much you can get back to your degree as soon as possible. This cannot go on. It can't x

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 27/06/2020 18:43

We had Domino last night as DH is great - I was hot and bothered as made msitake of sorting/tidying DS room with him and dealing with random questions on some school work DD1 had actually been set.

Slugs are eating our new rhubarb patch - one of the first things we did in lockdown fianlly put some veg patches in. DH is amazed anything would be eating the rhubarb leaves but then he was amazed I got rhubarb seeds to plant in first place.

NothingIsWrong · 27/06/2020 18:50

Bloody hell I leave you all alone for an afternoon and it's wine and rioting

I have had a glorious child free afternoon and I actually did some proper clothes sewing. I have made half a pair of pyjamas for eldest DD, and despite it being about 15 years since I did much dressmaking it's going OK so far...

MagdaS · 27/06/2020 18:54

We went shopping today. For murderously unnecessary things like books and headphones. The hifi shop was great, no queuing, tons of space and sanitiser, masks and gloves if you wanted to use them but no one was forcing you to. And they had a temperature checker, again, no obligation, but the boys loved it as it was space agey so we all used it several times. Grin Pleased to report all were normal. And I have some decent headphones for the first time in my life.

SpnBaby1967 · 27/06/2020 18:55

I started on the prosecco about 2 hours ago!

Been a nice lazy day. Mum popped round to use our shower, I slept in till 10am which was lush. Spent all day chilling watching some paramedic programme.

Made chicken dipper wraps for dinner, kids love them, they're quick, easy & able to amend them to each child's fussy habits easily.

Now for more prosecco and more lazing

MagdaS · 27/06/2020 18:55

There is wine in the fridge for later and I’m always up for a riot. Need to take my contact lenses out first though.

NothingIsWrong · 27/06/2020 18:58

Gah. Corkscrew is inexplicably MISSING.

Which one of you has pinched my corkscrew?!?

Luckily there is gin...

I'm common...my wine has a screw top. I couldn't afford a cork top 'cos it's not pay day until Tuesday. I am starting off with a strawberry daquari (out of a small can) that OH got from the shop earlier though. Grin
BlackberryViolet · 27/06/2020 19:10

@CruCru

Ugh. The slugs have eaten one of my basil plants.
Bastards things have eaten almost all the basil plants, the only one left is the Greek basil, Genovese, purple and lemon have all been grazed to the ground. I really wanted the purple Basil to work as I wanted purple pesto, I may need to do a bit of shopping and try again if any of the herb nurseries have some
RobinHobb · 27/06/2020 19:12

@HesterShaw
@ProfessorRadcliffe

Thank you! I've poured a glass of prosecco; kids going to bed soon and taking a deep breath. It's fine, going back to approach of counting blessings. Things are good otherwise. Worried about my parents, who are based in another country where the virus is rife, and who are very vulnerable. They are isolating but I'm trying to compartmentalise and just get on with life, and not drive myself spare with anxiety.

Really praying for a vaccination by the end of this year. I read we were expecting some results from the oxford vaccine trial with hcps in Brazil in July. Let's see....

LivinLaVidaLoki · 27/06/2020 19:12

Have I missed the wine and rioting?

I've actually now booked hotel stays for actual uk breaks (as well as hoping my holiday goes ahead). Combined with an actual weekend planned with my family soon, I am so happy I've been dancing round all day.

Also caned the bogof on cosmetics in superdrug as I want to start wearing make up and nice clothes and feeling good about myself again!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 19:14

Cattermole that’s the one! 😁 Killer slugs!

We had a chat today about guns and how you’d need a license and need a doctor to sign you off. It was a good lesson in consequences because my youngest said he’d tell the doc he needed a machine gun to kill zombie chickens. So now he’s reflecting on a story the GP will buy. Where DO they get these ideas?

I’m not sure I can riot. I’ve never got the hang of my contacts and I had a nasty incident in the greenhouse the other night without my glasses on when I reached for a strawberry and got SLUGGED!

justasking111 · 27/06/2020 19:25

I have a confession to make. After rain I go out at night with a torch and a load of salt to commit murder on slugs..

BarkandCheese · 27/06/2020 19:28

My dog, being both very fluffy and low to the ground, gets slugs stuck to her and brings them in the house.
