Need to adhere to guidelines this time though.

I like desk siiting forward - but my DC secondary has tables or benches in DT,food tech and sciences.

I've found more formal schools got easier my older two found them though it could be them getting older. The chaotic free flowing noisy classrooms of younger years didn't really suit them at all.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 26/06/2020 14:49

We had one phone call after a month for youngest and one for eldest after I had to light a rocket under secondary about access issues.

That's been it. I hope they've been focused on more vunerable families - partly why I think everyone back in wales was a good idea from welsh government - there are eyes on many more children that way.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/06/2020 15:10

Would have thought main issue with secondary especially would be shared areas and moving around, toilets, dining halls as well

Willitneverend · 26/06/2020 15:13

I am now really fearful of that's going to happen in Glasgow this weekend. No pubs or football (I hate the Old Firm derbies but at least they were controlled), there's already been violence, now the mass stabbing.

PinkFondantFancy · 26/06/2020 15:17

I don't have any issues with them all facing the front if that's what gets them all back to school. I won't be ok if they make them wear masks/spray them with bleach before they go in though.

On the 2m for schools, I've read that the government has said they never legally instructed schools to close in the first place, they must advised it. And that social distancing at school was never a hard and fast rule, and Ofsted said it was just aspirational.... I believe it's what the private schools are using to get reopened as normal in September.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/06/2020 15:22

It is really possible with these stabbings I agree. makes me feel like avoiding the park. Reading is not that far from here either.

TheGreatWave · 26/06/2020 15:22

If I thought he was suggesting it as a solution I'd be 100% behind him, however it feels much more Michael Gove like of wanting to have Victorian style schools.

Y3, 4 & 5 were facing forwards for much of this year.
Y4 (DS's class) is very girl heavy with a lot of (good natured but excitable) chatterboxes.
Y3 quite a polarised class with little middle ground, I can see why many of them would need distractions minimised
Y5 I know less well. I think they have a fair dose of silly boy syndrome.

Given a free choice, I prefered horse shoes for being able to get around the room. Best of rows and group facing.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/06/2020 15:36

I've booked the zoo for the middle of next week. I needed something to go in the calendar.

DS has had video physio today which went reasonably well. His favourite cuddly joined in which seemed to help.

Actially he zoomed with part of my youth group last night and messaged one of the girls Shock Grin They both have imaginations that go off into compatible flights of fantasy, so he can overlook the glittery unicorn shit Wink

Willitneverend · 26/06/2020 15:57

There have been various fascist and anti fascist demos in Glasgow since the BME protests kicked off, mainly in George Square (have a look on Twitter). It's all tied in with football ultras and some of the local councillors have been saying the police are favouring the far right protestors. I dont know who was involved in the stabbings but it all feels like a recipe for things to get even uglier. None of the things that are normally an outlet are happening so its turned into people confronting each other over statues and street signs.

ISaySteadyOn · 26/06/2020 16:10

I just heard from school. DDs can't go back until September so I said to heck with it and afaiac their summer holiday begins now.

@BogRollBOGOF, I liked horseshoes best from a student pov too.

Teateaandmoretea · 26/06/2020 16:14

I really am getting pissed off with the total lack of explanation as to why the numbers for the sad deaths outside hospital are so high. 70 hospital deaths and 189 total. Wtf.... where are all these people dying from Covid or are they actually from months ago?

Bollss · 26/06/2020 16:25

@Orangeblossom78

There were quite a lot of small children and babies mainly with Bronchiolitis at the time. Lots of this is never mentioned though is it. In children's wards, most winters I suppose, if it was similar to that winter.
DS had that at 19 days old and was blue lighted to hospital. Terrifying. He got better very very quickly though.
Drivingdownthe101 · 26/06/2020 16:36

What a day. I have a migraine, the toddler has screamed at me all day, the older DC are hot and grumpy and fractious... and I have just realised DH isn’t currently working while holed up in the study, he’s on a fucking team zoom quiz with a can of beer on the go.
Now I get it. I get that these things are part of working life. I get that it’s morale boosting and all that shit. What I don’t get is why I’m sitting on here in agony while he’s having a fucking jolly. I’m livid.

justasking111 · 26/06/2020 16:39

The 189 total type reporting they say goes back to April when asked, what the hell, where have the figures been till now. Wales and Scotland give total figures daily including outside hospital settings which imo. is more accurate because care homes have been clobbered. It will be interesting to see that total in time on PHW site.

Pertella · 26/06/2020 16:42

I've been using worldometer for stats but I dont think they adjust their graphs to take actual date of death into account.

Are there any sites that do have graphs by actual date?

mightbealittlebitmad · 26/06/2020 16:48

I don't get this whole counting business. I understand the time lag for weekends and back holidays but why add April deaths to June almost July? Now obviously they have said that they are backdated but a lot of people don't realise and I include myself in that. A quick glance of the numbers and I would think they have shot up unless I looked properly.

Are they doing it on purpose to keep feeding the fear or am I being paranoid?

BakewellTarts · 26/06/2020 16:51

I think they like numbers to go up before weekends particularly sunny ones!

Teateaandmoretea · 26/06/2020 16:52

Are they doing it on purpose to keep feeding the fear or am I being paranoid?

I think that’s exactly why. Otherwise they would properly explain what the data is. It makes it look like covid is deadly in 20% of cases if you take it at daily face value 🤔

Bollss · 26/06/2020 16:57

Where are these sunny weekends you speak of?! We are mid dramatic thunder storm here Grin
Ibake · 26/06/2020 17:02

If you follow Karol Sakora on Twitter there's a whole load of fabulous geeks who've been doing all sorts of number crunching and digging to get more info and up to date figs eg one person does real time numbers. Look out for these names: Anshul, UK Covid-19, David keep your distance Turner, Ganesh Ranganathan (so wish he's related to Romesh!). There's others but I see their tweets every day, lots of charts and analysis.

Really, really hope the last two days are nothing serious to worry about - mainly because I don't want the dementors to be right Grinbut have to confess to a little wobble earlier?

BakewellTarts · 26/06/2020 17:15

@TrustTheGeneGenie can you send a thunderstorm this way feels like 100% humidity and absolutely roasting.

I too wobble when I see bad figures and also hope the last couple of days are a blip.

justasking111 · 26/06/2020 17:20

The hospital figures in England today are 67, Wales 2, Scotland 0, NI 1 = 70, Those are the only figures I follow now living in Wales. Whatever they tack on later is a waste of time worry wise. They should have been added in April, May when they happened.

PickAChew · 26/06/2020 17:28

I watched the thunderstorms pass to the north of us. It feels just as disgusting as yesterday, out there.
