Student loan not tracking my re-payments

I have been making student loan repayments for years, I’m on the original deal from around 1999. The repayments are taken directly from my salary each month. They sent me an aggressive letter the other week, demanding l tell them where l work Confused. I tried sorting this out a couple of years ago as l found out they were taking about £150 a month from me but not knocking it off what l owed them. They blamed the inland revenue and the inland revenue blamed them. I got sent round in circles for months and l gave up. Not sure what to do next, lm sick of dealing with them, my money being taken every month but they don’t knock it off what l owe. They are happy to pressure me to provide info but won’t resolve my issues. Tempted to send the form back they sent me only complete with advice l pay every month and they need to adjust my figures accordingly

Okay so you called HMRC? You have payslips from your work showing the deductions? You have P60s Showing your work isn’t just falsifying weekly payments and hasn’t been passing these on? I would suggest you pay an accountant a small sum to go through your paperwork and write a letter on your behalf to the student loans company and to HMRC. Is your loan one of those that was sold to a bank (Barclays bought some)? I can even suggest an an accountant to help.

This happened to me. In the end I threatened legal action as like you, one was saying HMRC and the other was saying it was the SLC. It took 7 months to sort out, but I eventually got all my money back. Thieving fuckers.

Contacting your MP may help. They can speak to the right people at slc and HMRC and work out what's going on.

They don't track them monthly, they update once a year at the end of April using info provided by HMRC.

@LouiseTrees yes, yes and yes. I was working for the NHS in my last job and a reputable national charity now. So it’s not that my employer (s) were / are dodgy, just student loans can’t get their act together

@doodlejump1980 they are a bunch of wankers. I can’t wait to give them the finger in a few years when they start to be written off
