Our switch console has blue screen of death! Do I buy a second hand switch console off ebay or buy a new switch Lite?

The main difference between the switch lite and the original switch is that you can't use the switch lite to play with friends on a tv screen... but our kids rarely did that anyway.
A switch console costs about £280 new, £200ish second hand on Ebay.
A switch lite costs £200 new, £150ish on ebay.

Which should I go for?
I think if I sell the controller & joy cons etc from the old switch, I should get £100.

I guess I'm asking is the switch lite as good as the old switch apart from the difference mentioned above.
Thanks

I would just get a new controller. If you have any multi player games you would need more than one Lite. They might not have any now but I am sure they will want multi player games in the future.

Hi @bookmum08 , I presume you meant console instead of controller.
You can't actually buy the console on its own except on eBay.

Ah sorry. Miss read. It's the console not the controller. Oops.
I do think the normal Switch is better because you can take the controllers off and play multi player using the little Switch screen if you aren't using your big telly.
On the Lite the controllers are permanently attached.

You might be able to get just a console from CEX ?

Headperson · 24/06/2020 19:52

I've had a look at CEX reviews, they seem to be a right bunch of shysters.

Hmm. I always have no issues with CEX.

7ofNine · 24/06/2020 20:43

We have never had a problem with Cex. Any issues, they've taken back and given us a refund.
I am interested to know how you managed to bork your switch though?

pinkcattydude · 24/06/2020 21:59

Have you tried the repairs online as ours Did BSoD and we fixed it (touchwood)

Gertie75 · 24/06/2020 23:10

We've got two of the original Switches, they don't get used on the TV regularly but it's handy for when someone wants to play multiplayer or just play on a larger screen.

If anyone in your house is due a phone upgrade have a look online because there's often deals where you get a Switch, dh renewed his contract a few months ago and for £3 a month more than he was already paying he got a much better new phone and a free Switch.

I've tried various suggestions given online but no joy. I don't really know what the kids did to it, probably knocked it about quite a lot.
@pinkcattydude I didn't understand BSoD?

BSoD blue screen of death. Ours literally needed a hard reboot in the holder.

skippetyskoo · 25/06/2020 05:16

Agree that it’s worth trying to get it repaired through Nintendo repairs, even if you have to pay

Headperson · 25/06/2020 18:54

@skippetyskoo do you know if it's not repairable, do they still charge you?

OP posts:
skippetyskoo · 25/06/2020 22:30

You fill in a form, then send it in according to the e mail they send you, following any instructions. They then assess it and I think get in contact if there is a cost. If it’s still under warranty it would likely be free.

skippetyskoo · 25/06/2020 22:31

I doubt they would charge if it wasn’t repairable

Headperson · 25/06/2020 22:43

@skippetyskoo any idea what they charge for repairs ... Roughly?

www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/Nintendo-Switch/Solid-Colour-on-Screen-1515610.html If you follow this link and on to the repairs you should be able to get it booked in. I hope they quote, but I couldn’t get to that bit as I don’t have a serial number.

Headperson · 26/06/2020 23:55

Thanks @pinkcattydude, that's very helpful.
All I need to do now is find it!

I’m sorry, I have no idea but we have had a free repair in past
