Why do my knives go rusty in the dishwasher?

My knives handles go rusty and so do all my sharp knives. My forks and spoons don't.

Why is this? It's annoying!

All stainless steel? Knives have a different compound composition to forks and spoons and it's a well known problem. Only way round it is hand washing.

Sharp knives (for example kitchen cutting knives rather than dining cutlery) shouldn't really go in anyway because the heat of the drying cycle can blunt them.

All pains in the bum and nothing you can do.

Wish I knew. Drives me a bit potty.

I never put the good chopping knives in the dishwasher and always hand wash them
