How long for a skin tag to fall off?

On Mumsnet advice last week I tied a piece of thread around the skin tag I’ve had between my bum cheeks for about a year.
It’s started to feel quite tender and I’m just wondering how long I’m supposed to wait until it falls off?
I’ve been making up excuses to avoid sex as I don’t want DP to see it but not sure how long I can keep this up without admitting what I’ve done

I've done this before and I think it took around 3 days to fall off. It does need to be tied really tightly.

Ahhh I’ve had it on for over a week now so perhaps it’s not tight enough. It’s such an awkward place it took me about 100 tries to even get the thread around it 😂

I used dental floss on DDs in her arm pit but didn't do it tight enough. She re-did it, and it was off in 4 days.

So it’s still attached even with a second piece of thread I tied on last week.

It’s also getting really painful and a bit pussey but also looks like it’s now much less attached to the skin and is more hanging on by a little bit. Any ideas of how to get it to come off? It’s in the most awkward position to get to and is probably the size of a pea so not small enough to painlessly chop off!

If its painful and has pus it is probably infected. It is red and swollen or inflamed? Probably best to speak to a doctor about what to do next because it doesn't sound like it working.

If it's the size of a pea is it definitely a skin tag? It is attached all the way around or just by a small bit?

I’m pretty sure it’s a skin tag, it’s always been wobbly and not totally attached to the skin. I definitely think it’s gotten bigger since I tied the string around it. Maybe I’ll try to take it off and see what happens

I had a skin tag near my eye that I put a tight band on. It took a week to drop off, maybe tmi but it had some puss come out of it for 3 days, it then went black and very hard before it dropped off.

Oh that’s interesting @bearlyclearly I’ve just taken a photo of it as it’s so difficult to see and half of it is definitely black and hard so perhaps it is working.
I’ll give it a few days and maybe tighten the thread a bit and see what happens

Stick with it, I thought it’d never work but it eventually did. Mine dropped off from by my eye during a video call with my boss.

If its black and hard it sounds like it due to drop off soon.
I get loads of skin tags. For awkward ones I place a long piece of pre-knotted cotton loosely round the tag, then grasp the tag with tweezers and pull upwards to give more room. I take one long end of the cotton in the tweezer hand and pull the other loose end tight. Knot again, tight enough to sting, and the jobs done. Little ones can be snipped off with sterilised scissors but they do bleed quite a bit. I've only tried this once!

I think the word you are looking for is "purulent" 🤭. Lol

I had a few skin tags and I ended up having them removed by electrolysis. Takes a few seconds and they shrivel and drop off in a couple of hours. I was too chicken to cut them off myself!

Thanks everyone! I can confirm it fell off pretty quickly after it went black. I was weirdly fascinated to find this little ball of skin that had fallen off

I have one on my neck but it feels like quite a bit of skin is attached. Will that make it difficult to remove?

I’m definitely not an expert but mine was like that to start with @grafft It became much more wobbly the longer the thread was around it.

I guess it depends if you’d be able to get a piece of thread around it and tied tightly.

I did this with a skin tag on my knicker line. It took well over a week and still wasn’t off - not sure I’d done it right, I ended up freezing it with one of those veruca freezers and it sped up the process 😂
