Retail Workers....how are you all holding up?

I’m a retail manager, it’s been hellish hasn’t it?

Customers now simply don’t want to abide to our social distancing regs. They are getting more and more argumentative as more restrictions are being lifted..... trouble is, we are still keeping restrictions in store regardless

How are you are doing?

A mixed bag for me.
People are generally keeping a good distance from us and other customers but we have so many people insisting on paying cash - usually while saying “I know we’re not meant to be paying cash but...”

nottoday3000 · 23/06/2020 20:57

@Shadow01 literally felt like saying have they found a cure the amount of money they've tried to give me today was beyond a joke and yesterday why can't you take my cash just use the hand gel !! Twice I've heard that I find it so offensive

ItsInTheShed · 23/06/2020 21:18

we take cash from tomorrow

cashiers aren't happy and i feel bad for forcing it. its selfish, but theres been so many complaints

the 2 meter rule is winding customers up....aggression such as kicking trolleys and barging past stock, damaging the box.....just 2 i've seen today

I work in customer service for a supermarket and the number of complaints I'm having to deal with about people not following the one-way system or keeping 2m away is ridiculous.

kelper · 23/06/2020 21:25

I work for a supermarket and we've been taking cash all the way through, I use gel every time I touch it and some people give me a side eye but no-one has said anything yet.
However if one more person tells me "this is the first time I've been out in 3 months" i might commit murder!!

BananaPop2020 · 23/06/2020 21:29

I was surprised the other day when the bank refused to take bagged coins.

Supermarketworker06 · 23/06/2020 22:00

It's been a mix of things, really nice people appreciating what we're doing, and arseholes. More nice people than arseholes to be fair, but still arseholes. Can you tell I'm fed up with arseholes? Patience levels running very low, I don't care if you don't like queuing/ limits on what you can buy/ social distancing, don't have a go at me, speak to management.
Generally speaking I really like my job but this pandemic has brought out some awful tendencies in some people. It's also shown how kind people can be, so for those people I'm grateful.

Ipadipod · 23/06/2020 22:04

It’s been awful from the day we opened , absolutely no social distancing, one way system isn’t being used, customers were a bit taken aback when I stepped back because they were too close. All the measures that have been put in place are a waste of time and money.

ItsInTheShed · 23/06/2020 22:08

yes we had a customer complain a colleague was stepping back from her......she thought it was rude!!

retail workers are clearly there to be breathed on, sneezed on and the customers do not seem to care....some,well most....not all

We have taken cash all the way through and l also hand gel after l leave the till. People don’t listen but are quick to moan.

Today l had serve a woman who posted all over the towns Facebook that our store are not doing anything about social distancing (small supermarket) how as her first time out she has had people reach over her, stand to close and breath on her and that she was only out shopping for her mother.

It really makes me mad we can’t reply because of social media policies, but if we could l would tell everyone that we have seen her most days and just because she wears sunglasses that cover most of her face doesn’t mean she is unrecognisable and l am concerned her mother drinks too much.

And don’t get me started on people with gloves.

Houseplantmad · 23/06/2020 23:37

Well DH and I were saying tonight how grateful we are to all those working in the supermarkets particularly for keeping things going so well. It must have been relentless and still with no end in sight.

ItsInTheShed · 23/06/2020 23:41

Somebody from our company has made a false account and goes on to complaints and says what we are all thinking and want to say..

Thank you, you're one of the nice ones! Going to work later, hopefully no arseholes today but I'm not banking on it.

Arsehole count today zero. Hooray!
