What would you want to read about?

I’m starting a blog soon and I wondered what sort of thing people would be interested in reading about. I have quite a niche interest so not sure it would appeal to the general public. Do you prefer to read about topics or read about personal experiences? Any ideas e.g. life in lockdown, when I lived by the sea etc? Thanks for your input!

Seriously, OP, there are a million topics in the world!

Are you really going to be happy committing to a blog you're not particularly interested in personally?

Are you going to be able to feign passion and maintain enthusiasm, week after week, month after month?

I would write a list of things have experience/skills/talent in, and things you're passionate about. Not just this one niche area, but all your interests.

And have a look at the google rankings for your niche. And other sites in the same niche. Most of your research can be done on google.

My advice is don't try to appeal to "the general public". It's far too vague as a target market as the general public is so diverse. Pick your niche and identify your target market from within that.

Thank you so much, great advice!

Good luck!

I'd like to read about your niche interest! Whatever it is, if you're knowledgeable and passionate about it I'm sure it'll make for good reading even if it's something I don't have the first clue about Smile

Thanks so much @psychomath :)!

I dont read blogs. They seem like self indulgent crap mostly. If you would write a good blog, then I guess you'd know what you'd write about. Sorry OP if that sounds mean but it's probably true I'm afraid.

Bit harsh maybe didn’t need to be said but never mind

Given the thought the OP is clearly putting into whether or not her niche interest is too niche to be interesting to others, what other people enjoy reading and what style of blog is preferred by others, I don't get the impression her blog is going to be self-indulgent.

Also, since you don't read blogs but decided to post anyway, was it merely to rubbish OP's idea and advise her to give up on it because it won't benefit you?

I think we all know where the self-indulgent crap is.
