Help finding U.K. seaside location

We love Cornwall but it’s a very long drive from us. Does anyone know of anywhere else in the U.K. that has nice beaches and seaside towns please? Ideally sandy beaches with a bit of a wave to the sea, not too busy, and not full of arcades and fairgrounds.

It might help if you say where you are!

Dorset is lovely

More info needed! Do you need good schools? To commute to any particular town? Prefer to be in the south/north/east/west of the country???

North Devon is nice (not quite as far as Cornwall). Hengisbury Head/Christchurch is also really lovely. If you are much further north, I like the area around Southwold in Suffolk.

I recommend Northumberland if that's not to far away. Loads of lovely coastal towns with miles and miles of gorgeous beaches and plenty castles 😀

It’s for a holiday next year- not to live so no need for schools. We are Midlands and so Cornwall is a 7 hour drive. I think pretty much anywhere in the U.K. is closer and so don’t really mind location, just don’t have a clue about anywhere else so wanted some suggestions of nice areas.

Southwold, lovely beaches, putting green, 'naice' restaurants and pubs. £££ for accommodation though.

I was going to suggest Northumberland. Also North Yorkshire has a good handful of nice little seaside towns. I'm not talking about Scarborough or Bridlington, but the smaller places

Nighttimefreedom · 22/06/2020 20:50

North Yorkshire, Northumberland or North Wales.

HeyBlaby · 22/06/2020 20:51

North Devon and Northumberland, both lovely.

bloodywhitecat · 22/06/2020 20:53

The Norfolk and Suffolk coastline.

IpanemaGallina · 22/06/2020 20:53

Isle of Wight?

OrDis · 22/06/2020 20:53

Gower or Pembrokeshire in Wales

Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/06/2020 20:54

Filey, North Yorkshire.
Bamburgh and several other places in Northumberland.

Snailsetssail · 22/06/2020 20:54

Anywhere particularly in Northumberland? Google tells me it’s a very big area! Where is the best beach around there?

North West Wales- Llyn peninsula or Anglesey?
North Norfolk?

ListeningQuietly · 22/06/2020 20:55

Cromer

St Bees in Cumbria, close to Whitehaven is a little hidden gem.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 22/06/2020 20:56

Sutton on Sea. Lincolnshire.

It's old fashioned and tiny and quiet. Any of the beaches between Mablethorpe and Skegness are sandy and without either of these towns arcades and fairgrounds. Much nearer to the Midlands.

goose1964 · 22/06/2020 20:56

Weston-super-Mare you'll be at home there. Just don't park on the beach without checking the tides. It's a proper car park at the far end of the beach.

PineconeOfDoom · 22/06/2020 20:56

North Norfolk
