Best place to get kids glasses??

Where would you recommend getting glasses for children from?

We've used Specsavers in the past but more recently vision express due to a more convenient store.

Ds is due an eye test and I'm not sure where to take him? Do Specsavers still do free glasses for children? I can't find any info on their website

We get ours at Asda opticians because DS has a really high prescription and Asda thin lenses for free. They have a selection of children’s & teen frames.

Children tend to get an NHS voucher which either covers the cost of the glasses completely, or can be used as part payment - for example if you wanted a designer frame, extras on lenses.
The value of the voucher depends on the prescription.

Specsavers still do children’s glasses. The majority of opticians will do to.

You can have the sight test at any opticians you trust. You then, when they give you the prescription, request the GOS3 Voucher (which covers the cost of glasses and any additional lens requirements) from the prescriber and you can take it to any opticians to order glasses with it. It’s a well used tactic for them not to hand over the GOS3, unless asked, so you have to come back to them to use the voucher they tell you you are entitled to. (Ex optical assistant of 9 years, I hated withholding it but no sale affected our targets)

We, since 18 months and between seeing hospital opticians, have used a very good local optician we used for several years through prescription changes. However, the voucher only gave basic level thinning, Asda gave us thinning for the extra level so they actually looked nice. The local opticians only had a small selection of child’s glasses, Asda had dozens more so, from early teens, we still always have tests with the local opticians (so they claim the testing fee) but we always ask for the glasses voucher so we can get glasses from Asda. DH always buys the,very over priced, glasses from them though to make up from Them losing DS glasses sale.

This is very interesting, sorry to jump on the thread. My 15yo just ordered designer frames (129) from specsavers at the weekend and even with voucher it's going to cost us around 100 pound because of the thinning. I may look at Asda next time.

That is very interesting to hear about Asda doing the thinning for free, thank you! Is that the same for adult glasses? We have used Specsavers as it's closest, although DS's eye test is done at the eye hospital. Specsavers have always been very good for repairing glasses if required.
