Mashed potato

Inspired by another thread and having just had the same debate with DH over mash again, I thought I'd ask..
Mash..how do you like yours?

DH if he gets his hands on the potatoes will mash and stir them forever into what i class as a gluey mess, very loose.

I think they need to be mashed so no lumps but firm enough to stand a fork in them.

Thankfully we normally use the Instant Pot for mash these days so I normally get my hands on them before DH destroys them.

Please tell me i am right, and should just ltb

My DH is the same! Over mashes until they are gluey, DS never eats them if DH does them. I wanted a break from cooking and he cooked the other night. I just gave a simple reminder not to over mash & I never heard the end of it!
He says it makes them more creamy, I say like glue. I’m glad it’s not just me.

I use a hand blender, makes it smooth and creamy.

We use a potato ricer, give it a whirl around with a fork, DH likes to add a smidge of butter to his, job done.
