Is Witney in Oxfordshire a good place to move to?

We’re looking to move and Witney would suit us in terms of work and possibly schools. We “only” have a 300,000 budget but there seems to be nice houses around this price.
Can anyone advise, please? Is Witney a pleasant place? Are there no-go bits?

From what I know it's pleasant enough place but for me a negative would be it's not on a train line.

Hi - DP is from Witney and we visit regularly as still have family there. Not sure there are any no go areas- will ask him. It's certainly grown an awful lot over the last 25 years but we still love going there. Whereabouts are you looking - I could ask DP (who knows it better).

Thank you!
We’d prefer to be on the eastern side and/or near Ducklington.

I'm not sure about no go areas but the rush hour traffic to/ from oxford can be pretty bad

DP approves of Ducklington - says it's very nice -a little out of town but not too far. He thinks there aren't schools actually in Ducklington but he's old so things could have changed! He was at Henry Box back in the day.

Not sure how old your children are but there's a nice leisure centre and pool, also has The Milkshake Shop which is absolutely essential for my DC whenever we visit. There is Sainsbury, Waitrose, Lidl and small M&S, and a relatively new Cinema. There's a decent park called the Leys with playground, tennis courts, skatepark and crazy golf.

Sorry- not sure if you wanted all that information but I'm on a roll now! If it helps DP said he'd quite happily move back (and is now googling property online!).

Well, that’s encouraging! I appreciate your help.

There is a lovely primary school in Ducklington. Witney is a really nice place but the rush hour traffic into Oxford is a nightmare and it's a long commute into London. I'd say £300k is on the low side for a decent property. I would absolutely consider living there if I didn't have a commute to consider.

We used to live near Witney, it’s a lovely area.
