I’ve just noticed this today in my big toenail, it must have appeared at some point this week - is it the beginning of a fungal nail infection or something else?

I don’t see anything dodgy? Where is the bit you suspect OP?

Toobuktim · 21/06/2020 14:19

The white vertical line on the left side of the big toe

Are your toe nails on the hard side? If so, it could be just a crack along the fibre so to say. Mine are quite hard and do that sometimes. Keep an eye on it.

Don’t think the nails are overly hard, but i wasn’t sure if it was just a crack/bend or the start of something else

Ah right, I thought that was just the flash!!

Yeah I see what you mean. I have a foostie toenail and it went white but not in a straight line. More a splatter that grew.

So it could be damage if some sort, like a dry crack in the outer layer or something like a pp said.

I don’t know if fungus would grow in a thin line. Is that a thing?

If it is give it a fortnight and it will have spread. I let my toenail grow and snipped a bit of infected bit off for the gp to send away as there are different types of fungus.

I got tioconazole 283mg/ml on prescription for mine. Painted it on morning and evening for 11 months. It prevents new stuff growing but doesn’t really kill what’s there as it seems it has to grow out.
I’m nearly there though and it does say it can take a year.
The alternative was a tablet that can affect your liver. Sod that! Glad I didn’t go for that because the GP said I’d need regular blood tests and they arent doing that due to Covid yet.

Hm, give it a few days, and if it looks like it's getting bigger, try an antifungal.
