Navy sofa, yay or nay?

I think I’m going to buy this in navy.
Just worried it might show up a lot of dirt? It really is one of the most comfy sofas I’ve ever sat on and the legs can be changed to wood, not keen on the silver.

Navy sofa, yay or nay?

I like it too. BUT it would mean no food ever near it. Being incredibly determined to keep it looking like that....

My friend had a bespoke dark sofa. Was gorgeous. But I always remember white specks..... Someone's dandruff on it! (I know is probably also present on other sofas, but I can't see it!)

LouisLitt1 · 21/06/2020 08:13

Yeh we don’t eat on the sofa so that should be okay...

I would love a navy couch- but the flipping dogs shed. It looks lovely!!!

Would it not end up limiting your choice of walls/room decor though? I'm not sure if it's because I have a grey/taupe/cream colour scheme but what goes with navy except blue? Doesn't seem very versatile. We had a very blue house in the 90's - I just can't imagine it now.

LouisLitt1 · 21/06/2020 08:32

My living room is dark wooden floor and a very neutral colour on the wall. I don’t do matchy matchy, wouldn’t have all blue walls and a blue sofa and think that’s quite old fashioned now.

I like it, but I think you would want washable covers for it. We had a navy sofa when dd was a baby, it showed up every mark.

Fivefootoffun · 21/06/2020 08:41

It’s beautiful. Have you had pillow back before? Our last one was and I swore never again - was so hard to keep it looking good and often quite messy looking but maybe I just didn’t spend enough time fluffing the cushions properly.
Would a lint roller be enough to take away any visible specks etc?

BlusteryShowers · 21/06/2020 08:44

If you love it, you should get it. It looks lovely.

Navy is very stylish now. Navy goes with yellow, bottle green, blush pink, pale grey, gold, dark wood... lots of things.

Kitmerow · 21/06/2020 08:46

We have a navy material sofa. I love it but I’m constantly hoovering it. I don’t think I’d get one again.

SuddenArborealStop · 21/06/2020 08:47

I have a navy sofa that is eleven years old but the fabric is hard wearing and has a silver spec in it that hides a multitude.
I've never had trouble with it in a colour scheme if that's your worry but that one doesn't look particularly hard wearing tbh.

inmylifeIlovedthemall · 21/06/2020 08:51

I have a dark blue linen sofa with wooden legs and love it.

It doesn’t really show marks any more than other colours but I did get free insurance with it (Sofa.com) which covers me for uncleanable stains / damage etc.

I have it with a cream carpet, shadow white walls and pops of vibrant colour in the room from pictures, lamps etc.

BillywilliamV · 21/06/2020 08:54

Brown leather, the best quality that you can afford is the only possible material for a couch.

BalloonSlayer · 21/06/2020 09:02

We have got navy sofas, I love them. They don't show marks any more than our last fabric sofa did.

We have neutral walls and floor, and currently have silver/grey accessories as grey is fashionable. Once they is out fashion (shortly I suspect) I will have pink, green, orange (not ochre, see grey above) accessories.

LouisLitt1 · 21/06/2020 09:02

@SuddenArborealStop no, my comment was in response to @TheTeenageYears strange one about needing a whole blue living room.

@BillywilliamV is that meant to be funny? Confused

I’ve also been looking at oak furniture land Evie which may be more practical.

I love it! I think it would look amazing with your dark wooden floors and neutral walls.

AppleKatie · 21/06/2020 09:07

Provided you’ve no dog, no under 5s and don’t want to eat in it’s vicinity it is lovely. I like yellow near blue but I think it’s a colour scheme I would only go for in a large room.

Whatwouldnanado · 21/06/2020 09:13

If you want dark how about bottle green. Would be more flexible.

4amWitchingHour · 21/06/2020 09:14

Navy goes with basically anything except black!

I prefer the look of the second one you posted OP, but that's largely as I don't like pillow-back sofas - I find they get more uncomfortable more quickly as well as not looking as neat. In terms of showing up dirt etc - not had a navy sofa before so couldn't comment, but if the fabric is fairly easily cleanable I don't see why it'd be a problem, just brush / hoover it fairly regularly

2007Millie · 21/06/2020 09:15

We have a sofa in a very similar colour

Not sure why people are saying no eating/kids etc

I have a small toddler who has done a wee on it multiple times and spilt food and you wouldn't have any idea! I find it's a great colour for hiding marks

HMSSophie · 21/06/2020 09:17

I have one. Absolutely love it. In a pink room!

pickingdaisies · 21/06/2020 09:20

Navy with dark wood floors, gorgeous. Lots of colours go with navy. I like both those styles, the second looks like it might last better, but the first looks really comfy.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 21/06/2020 09:20

I have navy fabric sofas two children and a dog. No issues at all and wipes down very easily.

MrsBobDylan · 21/06/2020 09:22

A pillow back sofa is what I'll have when I go to hell - you will be constantly plumping and arranging. My kids automatically chuck cushions on the floor (I've tried everything to stop them, it is infuriating) and I am on the very of getting rid of everything that isn't physically attached to the sofa.

Navy lovely though!

longtimecomin · 21/06/2020 09:25

Lovely, I would put some mustard cushions on

tilder · 21/06/2020 09:26

Any colour but grey, griege or beige.

We used to have a navy sofa. Showed far less dirt than the grey one. Loved it, navy is incredibly versatile. The same way navy clothes are.

I would also want to know how hard wearing those cushion backs are.
