Would you eat this?

Really annoyed. Just realised that the meatless farm mince I bought from Asda has a use by date of 18th June. It’s been in the fridge and I was planning on using it for tea tonight. Do you think it would be safe to eat with it being 3 days past use by? Feel that I should be a bit more cautious as I’m 38 weeks pregnant.

I wouldn’t eat it. I do eat stuff past it’s use by date but three days is quite a lot especially if you’re pregnant.

If its completely vegan and looks/smells fine I would (I'm also pregnant), but if it has any animal products I wouldn't go past the use by date.

This is the one - can’t see that it’s got any animal products.

I would as long as it looks and smells ok, but would be inclined to cook it now rather than leave it uncooked for another 8 hours.

Is it really worth the risk?

PixieN · 21/06/2020 09:02

I don’t think I’m going to risk it, but DH said he will as long as it’s cooked for long enough. I’ll have something else.

I'd eat it providing the packaging is not bloated. But I normally don't bother with with BBE or use by dates. And I can't see anything in the list of ingredients that would cause issues, but I'm not a bio-scientist and I have no idea what protein isolate or methyl cellulose would do if they were off.

Hermano · 21/06/2020 09:32

Meat free I'd feel fine for eating it unless there were visible signs of it being off, but you've got to do what will make you feel OK
