Yes, I've noticed this. My six year old daughter told me that she wants to be a Goth and I must admit that I thought Yay! Although I do require that she gets some wear out of her normal, colourful clothes.

Orangeblossom78 · 22/06/2020 14:53

France seem to be getting more relaxed about the virus. I noticed one article saying the health minister (I think) described 'hysteria' over the 'banal epidemic' recently.

PickAChew · 22/06/2020 14:53

I'm with you there, @NannyPhlegm

I'm all for a mask anywhere packed in close quarters, particularly if it means that businesses with teeny tiny premises can then reopen. In the street or a big, airy supermarket? No fucking chance.

SomewhereEast · 22/06/2020 14:59

The South Korea / second wave thing is mystifying me too. I remember them being widely lauded for managing to avoid a proper first wave. Until a vaccine arrives I think every country is going to have to muddle through. I don't elimination is a realistic strategy, but I think developed countries have the resources to suppress the infection rate to a fairly low level. The 'outbreaks' we're seeing in places like Germany don't really worry me...we were never going to completely avoid that. The fact they're being quickly identified & acted on is the main thing. The problem is poor countries, which just don't have the resources to manage things Sad

CruCru · 22/06/2020 14:59

I would like that too, IAintentDead.

I know I've said this before (on one of these threads) but one of the worst things about lockdown is being told how I should or must feel or think. There is no "should" or "must" when it comes to opinions.

Nihiloxica · 22/06/2020 15:01

I would love to be able to sit round a huge table with you all, in a pub garden with plenty of snacks and refreshments.

Shock

MURDERER!!

Blimey today's numbers are 15. That's some drop from last Monday (38)

BogRollBOGOF · 22/06/2020 15:04

My bedroom has been kept dry for the past 11 months by a pan and a towel...

The house was extended over a decade ago before we moved in. Last summer during a torrential downpour I heard water trickling, turned around and found a waterfall through the middle of the doorframe that I'd painted the day before. We needed an assortment of outdoors work doing and by the time it all happened in the autumn, the roofer went up and came down swearing, armed with photos showing that the original builder had basically skimped on 2 rows of tiles and given insufficient overlap so when there's heavy rain and wind, it blows in to the liner, plus the ridge does not overlap the tiles so it is only the now failing liner that keeps the house dry and that part of the house needs reroofing. Between a sodden winter and lockdown, we just haven't had chance to sort it.

We have a surprising number of wonky walls too. We had to build a new perpendicular wall to be tiled as it was leaning off by 2" at the top!

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane

11 years on and off, arrived here when handbag.com disappeared overnight. As someone else said, not always a pleasant place and I’ve felt gaslit and bullied over the years.

Love it when a zombie thread comes up and I read a post thinking “oh I like her!” And it’s something I wrote.

I have a terrible pain and bruising under my toe. In normal times it could’ve been trodden on by a horse or damaged by treading on a sharp stone with cold, numb feet coming out of a loch, or slipping on a walk. I don’t think it’s a couch/carpet injury so was wondering if it’s covid toes so have been taking things out of the fridge to smell. I’ve gone fucking nuts.

My eldest is currently being (well, WAS being...) assessed for autism and this morning he said how happy he was now he has more time to do stuff he wants to rather than rushing all the time. I needed to hear that - that someone in this house is ticking over ok.

I was a handbagger too way way long ago!

Been here since we were having shit luck trying to conceive dd1 which took a good 3 years and she’s 8 years old now!

Another rant filled newsletter from the youngest school trying to overplay how horrid and full school is and complaining about the rotten media!

Nihiloxica · 22/06/2020 15:05

Goths are the poster children for conformity.

Counter cultural conformity is still conformity.

A goth that wears pink and doesn't like the Sisters of Mercy, maybe. Although the Sister of Mercy are awesome, so there's that.

Nihiloxica · 22/06/2020 15:06

I was a handbagger too way way long ago!

Me three! Smile

Mynxie · 22/06/2020 15:10

Not sure how long I’ve been on here but it’s a very long time! Does anyone else remember the Secret Santa days when Mumsnet was small enough for us to have a member who arranged for us to swap Christmas presents with one another? I think there was a £5 limit on spending.

I’ve loved this thread, thanks to you all for keeping me grounded and positive (most of the time). I don’t look at any others at the moment unless I feel like being scared, which isn’t very often tbh.

Willow2017 · 22/06/2020 15:14

HesterShaw1 OMG! Well in my world you are Matt Smith and shhhh don't tell anyone as they will send assassins you are the key, you are the cure!!🙆‍♀️🙆‍♀️🙆‍♀️

www.imdb.com/title/

I've been on and off for donkeys years. Stayed off for a while as there seemed to be a time when the nastiness on aibu and other threads was getting too much.
But loved the random fun threads at the weekends and the adult discussions that didn't dissolve into name calling teenage strops. It's all gone to hell in a handcart just now. I it go on about 4 threads regularly now such a shame. I read others just because they interest me but don't have to comment on them.
Wonder how many will name change after this or will they wear thier hysterical name calling roolz abiding. made up roolz badge with pride?

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 22/06/2020 15:14

I’m well up for a beer garden - won’t be able to socially distance as I’m half deaf. WHAT DEAR?

I’ve got a pal in Daegu - they all had to lockdown and the gov delivered survival kits. He got a box full of goodies I pay £££ for at specialist spice shops ffs. Not a fray bentos tin in sight!

I’m not sure I can do a mask. I tried hot cloth cleansing when I read about it on S&B - felt like I was being water boarded... not for me!

Willow2017 · 22/06/2020 15:14

Where did the signs come from?

Mascotte · 22/06/2020 15:16

@MaxNormal I still snigger about the Center Parcs thing

Allflightscancelled · 22/06/2020 15:18

Although the Sister of Mercy are awesome, so there's that

Agreed! Seeing the Sisters of Mercy was the last big fuck-off gathering I went to, just about 10 days before lockdown

Mascotte · 22/06/2020 15:20

I'm not doing masks as they're mingin and pointless. And will ruin my make up.

Not moaning if others do though. I'll take a scarf if I have to do public transport to access a day's carousing and will swathe it foxily around my face. Well, that's in my head, I'll actually just keep pulling it up irritably. More mad old bat than glamourous Arabian princess.

mylittleyumyum · 22/06/2020 15:20

Scottish AD's, does anyone know of any open coastal public toilets? We want to have a day out with my MIL, but she will need access to a toilet.

The toilet thing is a bother. We went out for the day a few weeks ago and my eldest DD unexpectedly took her period. Thankfully I had pads and wipes with me, but she was furious at the world when having to change behind a giant hedge and bring home a disposal bag :(

It's just not sad enough. Don't these cadavers know there's a pandemic on? At least mid-week variation will vindicate the 7th second wave of protest infestation Wink

I had a lovely run this morning. I've taken up stopping where I go through GATES and end up doing an exercise, sometimes even doing shocking things like press ups on a fence or jump squats on a stile. I even SMILE and say HELLO to other walkers. At one point I HOPPED just because, and it was FUN. Grin Then came home, DANCED to a bit more of sounds of the 80s then did some yoga in the garden, sadly upwind of my shielding, elderly neighbours.
I'm about to recommence cycling training with the DCs and commit the crime of young children HOGGING the pavement when they should be joylessly locked in their bedrooms until it is SAFE Wink

Spudlet · 22/06/2020 15:27

@Mascotte Our doctors surgery has made mask wearing compulsory to enter. I followed a bloke there the other day, he appeared to have a woolly pashmina type scarf in his hand. As I arrived, he was just leaving with said woolly scarf swathed around his head Grin Like a cashmere-clad bank robber 🤣🤣🤣

Mascotte · 22/06/2020 15:29

@Spudlet 😂 Bet he wears it to the bank too!

Nihiloxica · 22/06/2020 15:31

Grin

LOLOL you'll get us shut down with that kind of boldness Smile

10 year old and I are doing couch to 5K at the moment.

I race 10K, but I got so bored of my regular 5 mile-ish run and my speed was shite and getting no better. Recently a friend of mine was singing the praises of the shorter run for enjoyment, so I've gone back to it.

DC2 had decided to do regular junior Parkruns just before lockdown and she's had so little exercise since then. The Bastard Walk is not enough for a child of that age. So this is our new joint project.

It was actually scary how unfit she was when we started. This is a kid who is a brilliant swimmer, acrobat, full of energy. Had a stitch after running 60 seconds. Sad

She's also been coming sea swimming with me with no wetsuit. Hopefully she'll get her condition back and they will open cricket clubs and summer camps for kids soon.

Me too. It's the assumption that "the families of 40,000 people would disagree" when it comes to anything remotely connected with lock down easing or the non wearing of face masks and any other anti-dementory statement. I'm getting mightily pissed off with my family's grief being policed to ensure we're doing it properly.
InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 22/06/2020 15:35

Mascotte I’ve only just discovered lipstick which doesn’t budge - Don’t want to hide it!

mylittleyum only anecdotal I know, but friend got a proper telling off going from Perthshire to St. Andrews. Sat in her car with a flask and picnic literally murdering people. The police were quite unnecessary... lots of acquaintances going to silver sands - no hassle from police but I don’t know if the cafe is open. I think it’s probably bushes only though.
