Sandwich replacement bus

First week back and due to less lunch options at school, DD is now having packed lunches for the first time.

Sandwiches and wraps have not gone down well despite her favourite fillings. What can I send her in with that’s alright out of the fridge for 4 hours? I might be overthinking this...

She also has a pot of grapes or berries various, a pot of veg (cherry tomatoes, carrot or cucumber sticks), some crisps and a packet of raisins.

What do your LOs each if the don’t have a sandwich?

I can’t remember what I had as a kid as I only had them one term. Well, remember have a penguin or a club...

Ds won’t eat sandwiches, unless they’re fresh. When he was at primary school, I used to send cheese and crackers, homemade cheese and ham muffins, tuna pasta, mini pizzas made from bagels, quiche, “pasties” made from wraps, a slice of frittata or sometimes chicken drumsticks, breadsticks and cheese. He always had a fruit pot and a pot of salad sticks.

Meatballs
Steamed salmon
Left over roast / boiled / fried chicken
Mini cucumbers
A slice or two of cheese
fruit salad
single serve child portion of yoghurt
Water biscuits / ryvita

The nursery my child goes to won't allow anything with nuts in it, so you may want to check your school's policy on this before sending your little one in with pesto pasta.

Re keeping things out of the fridge, buy a lunch bag and a freezer block. Keep the lunch bag in the freezer when not in use, add the freezer block and lunch just before you're ready to leave in the morning and it will all still be cool by the time she eats it.

Sandwich replacement bus

Is that like a rail replacement bus, only tastier?

Indeed. And it is a random wiggly journey that takes forever and doesn’t alway go where you want it to. And is also prone to last minute changes...

Slices of salami, mini cubes of cheese, pitted olives and baby gherkins in one tub. Buttered bread roll or cream crackers. Crudités.
Fruit, yoghurt, compote.
