I hope this unimaginative thread title doesn't put off all the amazing posters from this group!

As we transition into this new phase things could get interesting....

I do feel for all of you that work in schools, what a difficult situation to be in.

Dh is/was shielding which has been difficult as we run our own business but my main worry now is having teenagers at school. What are others in this situation doing? I want to keep them home but am aware that they would miss out on so much education if we did that so am torn between doing what’s right for them and keeping dh safe...

ginglebellsginglebells · 01/11/2020 10:35

@Cloudburstagain

Just read Gov website - it says Mon 2nd Nov full guidance will be published and all those who are ECV will be written to.
@Cloudburstagain, please could you link me to that page on the website? I can only find guidance from 28th October.
Egghead68 · 01/11/2020 13:23

Here’s the government advice re work:

Over this period, we are advising the CEV to work from home. If you cannot work from home, you are advised not to go to work and may be eligible for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA).

BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 01/11/2020 16:50

@BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache

DW had to spend two days in the RGH this week for an emergency appt and US scan, luckily allowed home overnight in between. One positive case in her waiting room each day, and a third person in there coughing their guts up before she left (she wasn't there long enough after they arrived to see if they were moved over to the other side of the red door). So we're on tenterhooks in the Beyond household now, having isolated for fucking months.

My cousin has a confirmed case, he's a young healthy person though and wouldn't have known he had it without the test

Happy birthday tea! 🎉🎉

Bit weird to quote my own post, but here we are - 9 days later - and DW is coughing up a storm. Literally the only place she has been is to the hospital, I am LIVID. Test is on its way.
BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache · 01/11/2020 16:52

The hospital had the doors and windows in the waiting room shut. She was sat in there breathing in their dirty contaminated air for two whole days. How can a fucking hospital not know better than to open the fucking windows for actual fucks sake Angry

Egghead68 · 01/11/2020 17:17

That’s terrible @BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache. I hope she gets well soon and does not pass it on to any of you. I had to go to hospital on Friday and there was scant regard to extra hygiene measures or social distancing. People were coughing in the waiting room, members of staff weren’t wearing masks. There were no tenperature checks or hand gel. A nurse sang to herself about 3 inches from my face while she did my procedure. I’m counting down 14 days to see whether I get sick (I’ve been nowhere else). Hospitals should no better.

Egghead68 · 01/11/2020 17:18

Know not no ffs

NervousInYorkshire · 01/11/2020 17:24

@BeyondsConstantBangingHeadache @Egghead68 that's disgraceful. Hope your DW is ok, Beyond, and that you will be too Egghead.

I just had this from the council...

"Covid-19 transmission in Leeds is very high. As you are clinically extremely vulnerable, reduce your risk of coming into contact with the virus: reduce how many people you are in close contact with, keep 2m from people you don t live with, wear face coverings indoors & wash hands often. Work at home if you can. If you can t, we are seeking urgent clarification on what the advice and support will be from Thursday, when national guidance changes. Children are advised to attend school, but confirm with the school they are in the shielding group. Leeds will not enter tier 3 tomorrow." (C/p for accessibility)

Teaistheanswer · 01/11/2020 17:56

@beyondsconstantbangingheadache that's awful! I am crossing everything for you.

I've just head from my headteacher saying that as I can't wfh she will be contacting me before we return to school to discuss my risk assessment Hmm I made it to the end of self isolating ok thank goodness but my colleague who tested positive in my bubble is still quite poorly bless her. I'm hoping that the guidelines tomorrow and the letter we are supposed to be getting make things clearer - think I might be clutching at straws though!

Interesting @nervousinyorkshie thank you for sharing. Let's hope the 'urgent clarification' actually makes thing clearer. About time something did!

MarieVanGoethem · 01/11/2020 19:18

Can we just put Larry The Cat in charge now please?

I read on another thread somewhere that elsewhere on MN someone’d claimed recently they’d had a new letter but it turned out they were lying: what sort of person does that?!

Not holding my breath for the new letters...

Egghead68 · 01/11/2020 20:53

I understood they weren’t lying just confused (maybe thought an old letter was a new letter or something).
I posted it on the previous page but the government have clarified that CEV people should not go into the workplace and that if they can’t WFH they may be eligible for SSP or ESA.

Gov Guidelines

Poppystars · 01/11/2020 22:39

Above is the link ginglebells

Poppystars · 01/11/2020 22:40

I decided I did not want a name that was depressing and having got caught in the rain changed it - sorry for 3 posts and not one, oops!

Poppystars · 01/11/2020 22:44

And sorry a very organised @Egghead68 has kinked it, and posted it. I need to Learn to read all the thread!
Not looking forwards to work tomorrow. I never do after the clocks change, I think darker and shorter days are not so nice!

MarieVanGoethem · 02/11/2020 00:02

Oh that’s a huge relief @Egghead68 - I didn’t see the thread in question at all, just people discussing what had happened, which made it sound like something deliberate & malicious.

People still don’t seem to have grasped the difference between “vulnerable” & “extremely clinically vulnerable”. And Twitter is just... bonkers... someone on there was claiming last night that they’d been officially told to shield again actually - letters sent out to all the shielding list patients at their GP surgery.

Outnumberedwoman · 02/11/2020 00:29

Here in NI kids have been off school for the last two weeks. DS2 has struggled. The weather has been miserable too so even going for a walk to let him burn offsome energy has been a non starter. Was getting the boys uniforms out for tomorrow morning earlier this evening and suddenly felt totally unsure if I was doing the right thing for them. Then I got really upset at the world when asking if school is the best place is even a question. The figures of outbreaks in schools here were released by the education minister and it was stark reading. Over 50% of schools have had clusters of infected staff and pupils in the previous half term. They said they didnt keep figures for the numbers who have missed school due to having to isolate as a result of being close contacts. From my childrens schools I know it is a lot. They need a better plan. And as for shielders......forgotten entirely. We have been in our circuit breaker lockdown for 2weeks now with a further 2 to go although schools are back tomorrow and shielding has not been mentioned once. Absolutely ridiculous.

Lovely to hear from you @MarieVanGoethem. I think a lot of people will get behind your idea to elect Larry the cat! He couldn't do any worse lol Wink

Egghead68 · 02/11/2020 05:31

Yes, team Larry the cat here!

Teaistheanswer · 02/11/2020 16:01

Have a staff development day so I am watching Boris addressing parliament Confused he has just said ECV people must only work from home.
That will make for interesting conversations for those of us working in schools.

Egghead68 · 02/11/2020 16:54

Still no updated CEV main document although it was supposed to be out today.

ginglebellsginglebells · 02/11/2020 17:31

Thank you for the link, @Egghead68 and for the nudge, @Poppystars

I'm currently a bit confused about my actual 'status'. I had the official shielding letter in the first lockdown- does that mean I'm counted as ECV?

Egghead68 · 02/11/2020 17:59

Yes I think so unless you have been told otherwise.
