So i have really long, really thick hair. Its almost waist length now. I have always looked after it and its normally been in great condition

After Christmas i was going to get it cut back to jaw length just to reduce the time it takes to look after it.

I got a nasty illness ( not COVID) and was in bed for about a week. Obviously i wasnt able to do my hair properly that week. I did try to comb it.

Once i was better the first thing i did was my hair however i cant get it back in conditon

Basically my hair is in clumps at the roots. Ibe read loads of things to fix it. I've tried brushing from the bottom to the roots. That never worked. I've bought various hair treatments that advise to keep on the roots overnight. And various other treatments and nothing has helped.

Im not sure what else to try but i want to fix it before the hairdresser opens.

So I'm hoping someone out here may know how to fix this.

Thank you so much.

So just to understand, your hair are a big lump of knots or twisted like dreadlocks? Brushing won’t help. My DD came back from a language trip with what I would describe as a bird nest at the back of her head. What we did was pour olive oil on head and leave all night ( big towel on pillow) then the next morning.l, with a comb I tried to comb one mm at a time. It tools me more than 6 hours . If your case is worse you might need help ( friend or family) because You will get very sore arms.

My hair is also long, wavy and thick and was in a desperate need for a cut prior to lockdown. I put conditioner in it then use a very wide comb to eventually get through it. Have you tried that? Sometimes I start with fingers to tease it out, then use the wide comb bit by bit.

@LeGrandBleu. Thank you. There were knots but i got all that out. Its beginning to look more like a birds nest but just at the top. I'll give what you ssid a try thank you.
