Filing a grievance - NHS

NC for this. Apologies if vague but would like to stay anonymous.
I’m a nurse and was advised by the RCN to file a grievance regarding a situation at work. Not with staff or a member of the public but with the admin. The union told me I could ask for compensation. Have you done this and can you share what the process was like? I don’t want to jeopardise my employment at present or in the future but they’ve also right bollocksed some things up. If I file a grievance and have a hearing is that just the end of it? Should I retain a solicitor as well?
