I’ve been racially abused for the first time in my life

I work in customer service and I couldn’t provide this person (Asian male) with a particular service he required so he proceeded to call me a ‘filthy white bitch’ and to go and ‘fuck my mum’.

I’m so shocked and shaken up right now.

What happened next? Was he removed from your place of work?

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 18/06/2020 16:00

He stormed out. I’m in the staffroom at the minute taking an extended break.

I'd be shaken up, too.

I wish we had more laws to protect retail staff from abuse. All abuse.

Not sure what I can say to make you feel better, though.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 18/06/2020 16:02

Do you have CCTV?

Report him to the police. Don't let him get away with it.

BeeFarseer · 18/06/2020 16:04

I'm sorry that happened to you. It's happened to me as well. It's par for the course with customer service jobs, although it really shouldn't be.

I've been threatened, spat at, wished dead, called a 'bitch', 'cunt', been accused of denying service because the person was a different race, pretty much every threat and insult you can think of.

It's horrible when it happens but it is not your fault.

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 18/06/2020 16:11

I never even thought about CCTV to be honest, good point.

Initially, he was so polite and courteous, I think that’s why it was more of a shock. Just goes to show how quick people can turn on you.

Just waiting for the "it can't be racist, you're white" comments.

Sadly racism and misogyny run together, sometimes.

Bioprepper · 18/06/2020 16:29

Im so sorry this happened to you. Please report it as its unacceptable. I was abused few months ago because an asian female came round a corner at 40 mph and nearly ran me over. My first instinct was to shout 'you bloody idiot!' she wound the window down and called me 'a silly white slag' she then said she shouldnt have stopped. This was outside a primary school with children around. I was so shocked by almost being run over and being racially abused i just stood with my mouth open not able to speak.

A lovely asian gentleman sat me down on the wall, asked if i was ok and had a go at the woman for speeding and being racist. she said something to him in their language to which he replied in english 'thats unacceptable'. I didn't ask what she said. He then tried to encourage me to report her. I didnt but i wish i had of done. I feel bad because not only did i have to hear her racism but about 50 other children did too.

PicsInRed · 18/06/2020 16:44

Most of that will have come from misogyny.

Doubt he abuses white men. At all.

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 18/06/2020 16:45

Racist and Sexist and your work needs to take action.

Squirrel134 · 18/06/2020 17:11

I'm sorry this happened to you. Hope you have got over the shock and upset.

Remember, you were just doing your job, remember you can't please everyone all of the time. Try not to take the words to heart, he's an rude idiot, who is old enough to know better.
Don't let it overshadow you, not all people are the same.

I always wish retail staff could give back as good as they got. Half these people are only rude because the know nothing will get said in return.
