Help to Ditch Virgin! TV / Broadband / Phone

DitchinVirgin · 18/06/2020 13:59

Posting for advice.

My Virgin TV/Broadband/Phone package comes to £63.47.

Looking to un-bundle the three.

  1. Looking for recommendations for recordable boxes that aren't too expensive. I'm fine with freeview but will miss the recordable function of TIVO.
  1. Can anyone recommend a decent phone package - ideally with cheap landline calls?
  1. Also looking for a not too expensive but reliable broadband.

I'd be highly thankful for advice!

post office have a deal of £18 per month for broadband and phone
www.postoffice.co.uk/broadband-phone
and the freesat tv box is worth a look, it is £199.99 but there is no monthly payments and you can record shows

WOW! That Post Office deal looks amazing! I'm going to research it now, thanks!

no problem, I just had another look at it goes up to £30 per month after 12 months, so you could always sign up for a 12 month contract and switch providers when it ends

Hi, if you tell Virgin you're leaving, they might give you a big discount. I do that every year and keep with a couple of quid of their first 12 month offer.

Thanks @NeedToKnow101

@sleepismysuperpower1 - thanks but I just read the customer reviews for the Post Office broadband and they are pretty shocking! Shame as that's such a good price.

We have Vodafone broadband for 23.50 a month including the line rental which seemed good to me. Have had no problems with them at all and much faster than our old broadband (which might have been plus net)

catinb0oots · 18/06/2020 15:01

I just left virgin yesterday after they put my bill up to £91 a month! They offered to reduce it to £78 but I managed to get a similar package from Sky for £55

BarbaraofSeville · 18/06/2020 15:01

Think about whether you really need to record programmes, or would streaming suit?

Netflix, Now TV, Disney Plus or possibly Amazon offer vast amounts of on demand content for a few quid a month each, although a lot of the Amazon Prime appears to cost more on top, unlike the others where it's all included.

If I can't cut the apron strings of 'pause and record' TV I'm leaning towards this freeview recorder: Manhattan T3-R 500GB Freeview Recorder

I'm toying with NOWTV phone/broadband...
