Were you prescribed lansoprazole or something to take with it? Did you take the naproxen with food?

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 17/06/2020 20:17

I took the naproxen with my breakfast and a glass of almond milk.

I get doubled over with pains after I eat x

Yes, I developed a gastric ulcer from Naproxen. I'd contact the GP to discuss.

I take Naproxen a few times each week. Once I took too many by taking the maximum allowed in a 24 hour period- my stomach was in agony.

Told GP about it, he prescribed Lanzoprazole and I take one of them every time I take Naproxen. I sometimes get a but if a tummy ache if my stomach is empty, but generally they work.

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 17/06/2020 20:36

Ah ok phew!

Yep, I'll contact the gp tomorrow.

Both me and DS have had Naproxen before and also been prescribed something to protect our stomach at the same time. Omeprazole or Lansoprazole

IwishIhadaMargarita · 17/06/2020 20:48

You need omeprazole

Irishprincess · 17/06/2020 21:08

My DH has been prescribed these and has to take omeprazole along side

But please be careful my brother got the dose wrong and was taking too many, he has had stomach problems for the past year and been to A&E because of Naproxen

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 17/06/2020 21:15

I’m waiting for a hip replacement. I take “Vimovo” - 500mg naproxen with 20mg Esomeprazole.

justkeepmovingon · 17/06/2020 22:28

I can't take it at all it's instant stomach pains, I've jumped straight to morphine.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 17/06/2020 22:43

Take it only after a full meal and with milk. Proper full fat milk not skimmed or almond milk. Its notorious for stomach pains and giving you the shits.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 17/06/2020 22:45

I used to take daily. It should always be prescribed with Omeperazole

TheFairyCaravan · 17/06/2020 22:48

I take Naproxen, but I take Omeprazole twice a day too. I'm surprised your doctor didn't prescribe you something like that alongside it.

MrBennsshop · 17/06/2020 23:27

@uncomfortablydumb53

I used to take daily. It should always be prescribed with Omeperazole
Unfortunately that doesn't always happen. For me, one GP didn't and then one GP did, by which time the damage was - literally - already done.
Babyroobs · 18/06/2020 01:41

Naproxen should never be prescribed without a stomach protection drug.

FedUpOfChangingName · 18/06/2020 01:52

Naproxen is a very powerful drug and often causes more harm than good.

Lots of people cant take it.
If your on blood thinners for example of if you have a problem with your kidneys

Jux · 18/06/2020 02:32

I've only taken it for a few days, but it was accompanied by omeprazole for the stomach effects. I had really weird side effects though so had to stop taking both anyway.

Imissmoominmama · 18/06/2020 03:02

@MooseBeTimeForSummer- I had a hip replacement in February. It’s been life changing! I hope you get yours soon.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 18/06/2020 03:14

Thanks! I’m finally on the waiting list. It would have been 5-7 months BC. I think it will be more like 10-12.

TheHobbitMum · 18/06/2020 03:19

You really need to get on to your GP for Lansoprazole (or another similar), Naproxen is really harsh on your stomach so it should always be prescribed together. I've been taking Naproxen for about 15yrs and if I don't take Lansoprazole, I soon know about it!

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 18/06/2020 06:14

I've had omeprazole with it in the past and it was fine. I for got to take some to work

I took it on a full stomach with porridge, toast and a glass of almond milk obvs thinking itll be ok as I've read you must take it with food. I'm such an idiot. Phoning the gp asap today to explain my fuck.up x

I take Naproxen and when I was first prescribed it the GP forgot to prescribe Omeprazole with it! I was in agony with stomach pains. I stopped taking it until a friend told me I should not take it without Omeprezole. Called GP and they prescribed some no apology though! Just ‘Oh an oversight!’

earlydoors42 · 18/06/2020 07:32

I have taken it without a stomach protector but won't again!

Someone else above noted weird side effects. The last time I took it, it turned me into a zombie for a while. One day I made tea but realised I hadn't switched on the slow cooker. Didn't notice the lack of cooking smell all day. So I made nuggets and chips in the oven. Took out the tray and dropped it on the floor. I didn't burn myself or anything, just let go. Things like that happened for a week but then luckily improved! I am scared if I need it again!

9caratyellowgold · 18/06/2020 12:33

Thanks for this thread OP, I was wondering what was up with my stomach for the past few days and now I know!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 18/06/2020 13:36

A good alternative for me is Diclofenac 50mgx 3 daily It's not first line choice these days but less general side effects if prescribed alongside Omeperazole, if that's useful for anyone I use Nefopam too which is an atypical analgesic Also Gabapentin for nerve pain
I have Cerebral Palsy( and rattle when I walk!)
