Takeaway chilli sauce!

Appreciate this is an utterly first world country but...

I absolutely love takeaway chilli sauce but can't work out where to buy it from. Quite a few in our area sell it (different areas / chains etc) so I presume it's a brand you can buy. I absolutely love it but we don't get many takeaways and I think they'd think I'd flipped if I walked in and asked where to buy it.

It's red and quite thin in consistency- normally has tiny bits of chopped coriander floating about and chilli seeds. It's reasonably hot and not sweet. I don't suppose any MNers own takeaways and know what I'm talking about please? I've tried buying some from the supermarket but they're never as good

Many of the kebab shops I know have the crucial sauces.

Probably because they come in big bottles.

They do a few different chillies on their site, including this one

I've checked out the crucial ones and haven't found it yet! I'm going to have to ask aren't I...

Hmm, you could always get an order for collection, and 'remember' the sauce when you get there, meaning they have to pour in front of you?

It might end up being a wholesale brand, like Costco do Kirkland? Do you know anyone with a membership for there, or Bestway / Bookers?

I now want a takeaway....

Food Warehouse and some Icelands have catering packs of stuff.

If I get to the bottom of it, I'll let you know. It really is the best!

I always thought they made it themselves as it varies between kebab shops according to DH.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 17/06/2020 20:38

Can you not ask them? I have had one from Bookers called Chefs Larder - had to buy a litre bottle and it should be used (I think) within three weeks of opening! I put it on almost everything but even I couldn't managed that but it kept for ages in the fridge... (not angry Angry just flushed face!)

Is it Malaysian Special Chilli Sauce? All the takeaways sell it round here

One of my colleagues' DH owns a kebab shop and he makes his himself, so you might struggle to buy it from a shop...

BertieBotts · 17/06/2020 21:44

Just ask if you can buy a bottle. Our chip shop owner used to have bottles of all the sauce he used. They won't mind at all and will probably be happy to make an extra sale. If they do make their own you could ask them if you can bring a bottle and a funnel and they will sell you some?

BertieBotts · 17/06/2020 21:45

Or even just order 5 tubs of it next time and decant them onto a bottle!

Alittlebitta · 17/06/2020 21:48

Every shop I've worked in makes it themselves using the cash and carry tomato ketchup as the base.

peppapigisscottish · 17/06/2020 21:58

Morrison's sell the crucial sauces
