Arrowroot

When I did cooking at secondary school everything sweet was covered in an “arrowroot glaze”.

I don’t think anyone has used arrowroot in the last 30 years.

Did I miss a scandal where arrowroot was found to cause some something awful like anal leakage....

Not sure but perhaps no one eats flan anymore?

Mum used it all the time.

There was also something else she used but cannot remember was it vege gel? I think a chef used it on weekend tv but can't remember.

you used to probably still do make a strawberry glaze to put on a flan my mum used it and had one those sponge flans ready made from supermarket tinned fruit with glaze put over actually quite nice.
angelica is another thing. i have a huge angelica plant in the garden its a herb i think they used to crystallise it i dont think its hard to do but have not heard of anyone using it to decorate for years

I've seen arrowroot listed in a few vegan baking recipes. Not sure if it's a replacement for something. I have occasionally seen it in the baking ingredients section of large supermarkets and health food shops.
