Any last minute tips? Got to get litter tray and food. And a toy I hope. Can’t quite believe it!!

How exciting. Is this an adult cat? I do hope you will be posting a pic later.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/06/2020 08:38

Make sure your house is secure (no open windows etc) and let her (or him) explore in her own time.

Don't be surprised if she disappears into an alarmingly small space and you think she's escaped even though you know that simply isn't possible. She will almost certainly settle down in time.

No matter how nice a selection of beds you provide for her, she will end up sleeping in an old cardboard box, the washing basket or on some of your own furniture.

How wonderful! We had a rescue cat who was very independent and a bit spikey but when he chose to sit on your lap you felt a million dollars. Give him time and space and lots of love and you'll be doing a great job - pictures later please!

Tadpolesandfroglets · 16/06/2020 08:49

Cat-proof a room or area and keep them there for a few days to get them settled. More than one toy and a few boxes to play in! Cat nip might help!

Honesttodog · 16/06/2020 08:52

Great, we have a few boxes to scatter around, I’m going to move plants around a bit and tidy.... Im nervous even though I’ve had a cat before!

She is only 8 months, playful and friendly

Hope it all goes well. I remember getting our rescue cat and I was convinced she'd escaped but was just in an impossibly small gap behind some furniture.
I agree with PP it's the most amazing feeling when the cat first chooses to sit on your knee for a big cuddle.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 16/06/2020 08:56

Mine keeps attacking wires! So keep an eye out for that and moving plants good idea, some are poisonous so worth looking it up but above all enjoy! They are delightful creatures.

Excellent! Photos required plus regular updates of how your rehome is settling in. I am tittering in the edge of a rescue. You might just tip me over.

Deathraystare · 16/06/2020 09:02

Yes to this! One of ours loved the Ali Baba basket at the top of the stairs (for dirty washing!). We would hear noises inside it and never thought it was the cat!

She loved clean laundry too - she would get in the airing cupboard. I would go in to get a fresh towel and would meet with a bit of resistance,, then a small triangular head would peep out!

All our cats loved boxes.

Honesttodog · 16/06/2020 09:07

I have two nice small boxes and then some big wine boxes that might work as beds.

ShowOfHands · 16/06/2020 09:07

Interestingly, our cat loves her cat bed and has never been interested in boxes. She has never sat on a human knee either. She's a weird little thing. I'm not sure she's a cat tbh.

Can't wait to see photos.

Get a great slow feeder if you can .
Get puss use to having treats in that rather than scrounging , and it will keep her / him occupied for a bit when you go out and abandoned her.

Also find yourself a bell from a kids toy / budge cage etc and rattle it every single time you feed / treat her , then when you eventually can let her out you can use the bell to lure her back in . ( in theory anyway)

apricotdreams · 16/06/2020 09:24

On the day our rescue cat arrived we let him out in the living room and then sat on sofas with fleece blanket on our laps. He had a good look round everywhere and then came and sat on each persons lap! I think the blanket encouraged that and made him feel safe. Within a day or two it was like he had always been with us. Good luck with your feline friend Smile

BarbaraofSeville · 16/06/2020 09:30

We had a cat that would never sit on your lap unless you were trying to read a newspaper.

However, if he saw anyone with a newspaper on their lap, he would jump straight up. Therefore, if you wanted that cat to sit on your lap, you simply had to pretend to read the paper.

Honesttodog · 16/06/2020 10:44

apricot that’s lovely, we’ll try it!!

@honestdog What time is collection?

Honesttodog · 16/06/2020 23:23

Well she is home and now that have cuddled her on the sofa for ages I hope she will sleep!! Very chatty and affectionate. She has eaten a little and had a wee and a poo and a wash so she seems relaxed. Quite sensitive to noise so I hope she sleeps!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/06/2020 14:36

chose to sit on your lap you felt a million dollars still waiting for this one , our Stealth Panthers have been here just over a year .

They claim chairs - dining room chairs and one in the small bedroom

Now........photos Grin.

Windyatthebeach · 17/06/2020 14:45

Mm dcat indeed..

Honesttodog · 17/06/2020 15:28

All going well! She has eaten a lot - a third of a pouch and a little tin - won’t touch the dry food the cattery gave us. Went to the supermarket earlier and when we got back she had trapped herself in the dvd cupboard by climbing thru the space where the wires go to the sockets😥 she seems ok tho and still talking to me 😅 got her a toy that she loves and also discovered she loves dreamies - great to have some treats she likes to keep her sweet! My ds is quite nervous but getting better, I think he is worried I will love the cat more than him....

ThunderCrack · 17/06/2020 15:38

Our cat rules the roost...

She eats dry, wet and has dental crunchies which she thinks is a treat... Win win...

She wakes us up between 4-5am every morning.
Wanting wet food although she had her last pouch at midnight and has dry food down all the time...

What is yours eating?
Are you mixing two different wet foods?

In 24 hours, she eats about 4 pouches, has nibbles on dry food and has about 15 dental crunchies.

Once a week she will have a small tin of tuna in water and a small cooked chicken breast...

Honesttodog · 17/06/2020 15:49

Well she was miaowing a bit after the rest of yesterday’s pouch so I gave her half a tin then another half. Basically I love cats so I had food left from attempting to feed a local cat friend 😳 and she didn’t seem crazy about the whiskas pouch
